Favorite Vertical Jigs

What’s everyone’s favorite brand/model of vertical jigs?
I’ve only ever used the Williamson ones but curious if there’s something better

Williamson makes more than 1 type of jig…

Generally

High speed- heavy hydrodynamic meant to cut through water

Slow pitch- made to flutter and swim on the fall or have something like a skirt that has good action when moved slow

Most people highspeed jig and you mostly catch jacks , cudas, but can catch mackeral, tuna, wahoo. Slow pitch is bottom jigging for the most part and is very effective when dialed in. Like bait vs artificial inshore when compared to the amount of non desired fish you catch.

In my opinion high speed jigs dont really matter, slow pitch jigs actually have action and vary a lot.

I love the jigs blue water candy makes. have always caught big bsb on them and some huge snapper

Not usually. I have never had a hook problem with them yet. Cut offs, now that is different story.

I’ve got a bunch of jigs I’d sell for pretty cheap if interested. You would just need to buy some good split rings and assist hooks

PM me if interested.

Seen plenty of big gag grouper caught on speed jigs btw

I have ordered jigs from them on multiple occasions. Never had an issue, but I haven’t ordered any motor parts.

I gave up most yo-yo Jigging and speed Jigging years ago, getting hooked on slow pitch Jigging. But when all else fails I can always count on a polished chrome or a hammered diamond jig to catch the eye of something below. Bead is the brand that’s been around for years, but many of the other brands produce also.

Most fun way to catch black sea bass, even the small ones in my opinion

Slowpitch….I am curious what you are using as far as rods, reels, line, and jigs? Most of the slow pitch jigging technique is concentrated in Southern Florida or the Northeast.

Its a nice alternative to the speed jigging and can be deadly.

This place has a great selection. Slow pitch is asian thing.

Hi fishcrazy I am originally from the N/E where SPJ is a regular style. I use Temple Reef, Levitate series and Evergreen, Poseidon series. For reels I use Shimano Ocea jigger hg and Accurate valiant reels. Line any braid that is super thin and upto 30# test. I use japan import line from PE1 to PE3. Jigs my favorites are Sea Floor Control (SFC), Reals, Beat, and BlueBlue. Most Japan imports but a tackle shop in NJ has a nice selection. Hope this helps.

Hi 40inch! Yes SPJ did start in Japan but it is making its way to the US because of its catch and hook up ratio. I have outfished many guys SPJ’ing when they were using fresh and even live bait. Do you slow pitch when you’re on the water? And yes 7Seas is a great source for Japan imports, I’ve purchased from them many times. They are a great company with fair prices, and super fast shipping to the US. Also there’s Plat Tackle, JDM tackle, and a shop in NJ (the reel seat) that has a great selection of Japan imports for being in the states. They carry Temple Reef rods and a nice assortment of overseas jigs.

I usually dont do a lot of jigging because of most people I fish with use bait and it makes it harder to manage lines. I want to do a jigging trip 1 day though. Ill jig at night sometimes when less lines are in the water. Most the areas i fish for bottom fish have 40lb plus jacks that will beat everything to the jig, slow or fast jigging. I caught probally 10 in a row last time before i gave in and went to bait.

I love jig fishing for Amberjack! If you ever need someone to fill in and make the trip easier in the pocket. Let me know.
