Any of you guys have any experience with this motor: 2008 Suzuki df 90hp fourstroke. It’s getting mounted tomorow on the Montauk.

I had an 05 140 for 4 years and it was a great motor. Easy to work on and very efficient.
If you talk to CPD, Charleston County Sheriffs Department, Coast Guard and FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) guys you can learn a lot. I talked, at length, with many of these guys about boats, motors and electronics. Granted these guys generally run boats hard at (WOT) most of the time. But many of these agencies have tried Suzuki motors at some point on the LE boats. The gerenal concensus is that the lower units in these motors are very weak. FLETC pulled them off and now runs Yamaha exclusively. They had several 2008, 225 Suzukis and both spent more time in the shop than on the water. But then some have had good luck with them, like localdude. I think you can get good motors and bad motors from anyone. Odds are in your favor if you stick with a name brand with a proven history of good reliability. The average boater will never run a motor as hard as law enforcement officers do. And I usually guage what I buy by how well it does in the hands of LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers).

I’m not worried about it. . . as I plan only to use the motor for fishing, shrimping and enjoying cruises around Charleston. I’m not much of a speed demon and won’t work it 25% as hard as the law agencies you mentioned.
Thanks for the info.

corrosion and factory support is still a moajor issue with these motors.
I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com
factory support is non existent…
Excellent motors! I owned a pair on my Grady White Gulf Stream and they were perfect motors and I own a pair of 140 2 strokes presently. Suzuki is the number one motor used by commercial crabbers and gill netters in NC for sure (lived in hatteras for 10 yrs and they are on the back of almost every comm boat), I think they like the extended Suzuki warranty. Down side is the dealers are available, but you may have to drive a few hours to get to one. I also read all the time about their corrosion problems, but knock on wood, I never saw it on mine. I think you will love it, but I do believe there was one year of the DF90 having bad head gaskets.
