i am looking for a feeder for next season and was hoping some of the members would give me input on which feeders they prefer.
thanks
Gravity feeder made out of 4" PVC Sewer pipe. You’ll need a T, 3 end caps, and a 10’ Section of pipe. Cut pipe at 2’, 2’ and cut off the female end of the remaining section. Put the 2’ sections on the linear section of the T, notch out the tops to make a trough. Insert the long section into the perpendicular part of the T. Add the end caps. I screw the parts to the T. Notch or drill holes in the bottom of the trough. Attach the long section to a 2X stob driven into the ground with a rope or screw at a 45 degree or greater angle and fill with shell corn. Works like a charm and the deer won’t take 3 years to get use to it.
We use them at the club and I put a couple out on my property after getting skunked on the mechanical feeder for 2 years. Deer were using the PVC feeder inside of a week. I can’t keep them full now.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I don’t use a T like Salty, I use 90* metal shelf bracket to attach 8" pvc 36" to a plywood base. Last year I swapped out all bases to marine grade plywood. I put a hinge and cap on the top, will hold 50lb of shelled corn ( well I have to put a little around the base) some camo paint to break up the solid white. If you want I can send some pictures.
I mount it flush with the base after cutting 4 triangle shape openings for the corn to come out. I also put a handle on the side for easy moving.
Personally I think the timed feeders work best if you have a large presence of hogs, other than that I feel these style are best for money spent.

Fred67’s way is definitely a good way, the only problem I had is the price of the 8’’ PVC is outrageous. If you have some PVC laying in the backyard, its the best way to go, but Salty’s way is the more economical route. 4’’ is a lot cheaper.

That’s why we use the 4". Cheap and easy. When hogs come in and rip them down, it doesn’t hurt nearly as much plus you can make about 10 of the one’s I’m talking about for what 1 of Fred’s cost. Not saying his aren’t good at all, they probably make a fine feeder but we have a ton of hogs and they can mess those things up quick. You’ll have a about $25.00 in the one I am talking about.

Thank yall for the tips i appreciate it. i am going to give it a go.
Guess I should have mentioned that I had the 8" given to me.
Salty is spot on with hogs and what they’ll do to a feeder if you have them in your hunting area.

Easiest way I have found. 8 inch green PVC sewer pipe, notched at the bottom, L brackets hold it on a plywood topped base. Cover the pipe with a camo bucket. 4.5 ft piece holds 100 lbs. my buddy made a few about 5 years ago. I don’t use them but he swears by them. Good luck.

I hunt on a club that uses gravity feeders made out of about anything he can find from trash cans to water heater tanks, all seem to work well.

What Salty said and pay attention to the “screw the parts together” information. If you have any chance of hogs on your property, screwing the parts together with 5/8" sheet metal screws will keep you from owning a lot of broken parts that are glued together. One other thing, cut a piece of 2x6, 6" longer than the base and drill 5/8" holes near the ends. Screw through the bottom of the troughs into the 2x6 and get 2 18" pieces of re-bar with a 3" bend at one end. Drive through the drilled holes to prevent the hogs from rooting up the feeder and hopefully they will not break the feeder off at the screws to the post.

You’re the one who should take credit for the design. I just posted before you got a chance to.

Do you normally throw cob corn down with these feeders or will the deer hit the feeder alone?
Also, is the pipe sittin directly on top of the wood base?
You might sprinkle a little corn around it to show them the way but they’ll figure it out pretty quick. Wood is used to keep the bottom of the trough off the ground and let it drain.
