Felt Boots

Will be going to the mountains in a few weeks and need some felt some boots. Does anyone know where i could get some for cheap or would someone sell me some used ones around a size 10. Don’t have to be nice, just need them for one trip.

Check on where you are going… most states out west have outlawed them and it’s workin it;s way east…

Got a pair ov vibram sole Simms from Charleston Angler and walked up and down the Green River in them. The newer vibram soles work nicely.

Nothing holds better than felt soles. Even Simms is moving back into them. Use a mild bleach soak to kill foreign plantlife on the felt. This is mainly for guys traveling from stream to stream.
Call the fly shop near the stream you are headed to. They will give you the local knowledge and have the boots.
sportsman warehouse in Columbia sc have a large selection of boots/felt sole, could be on your way up to the mountains.

its a safety issue. felt is much much more stable on slick rock.
you could borrow mine, but they are size 14…i’ll check when i get home (my wife has a pair and i think they are 9’s…) they might work if you are wet wading

I have some frogg toggs non insuleyef cheaper waders from the sportsmans wearhouse in a size 11, its what I used for trout fishing. About $60

I got a pair of Allen felt boots from amazon for 44 in December and they work great. Think I’m gonna pick up the chotas for my wife

I would like to disagree regarding felt soles. I have fly fished this entire country, east to west, north to south for over 30 years. My love is tailwaters and that scum is slicker than owl snot, and would like to say if I NEVER own felt soles it will be too soon. I bought a pair of Simms Vibram soles out on the Big Horn in MT when my old Orvis Felts blew up a couple of years ago. On 45 degree rocks with snot you are locked in and going no where. They clean up fast and don’t smell up your truck or garage later on. Plus they don’t spead unwanted didymo or microbacterial species.

See you on the water, dry of course! My home waters Clinch, S. Holston, Holston rivers, with an occational GSMNP thrown in.

I wouldn’t want to wear those in the mountains…not enough protection from the rocks and not enough support for your ankles. I don’t think I would wear them on the flats either because the felt will get covered in mud and you won’t have any traction. Some things just don’t do dual service.

Are you wet wading or taking bootfoot waders?
