I am seriously wanting to add a unit to the new kayak. I just don’t know if I need one that I can add a specific chip to or if the basemaps will work. I have read and heard there is very little detail in the basemaps and I am not sure how much detail I will need.
I will be fishing inshore in a few differen areas as well as lakes around my area and some rivers in Ga.
Just wanting to know what those of you with these types of units think. I really want to get it correct the first time so I don’t have to drill additional holes to upgrade.
Thanks
Keith
mount a “puck” os starboard or similar and then every gps/elec change, you just drill into it.
I think I understand what you mean, but can you be more specific?
Thanks

Well I ordered one today. I ended up with Humminbird 385ci kayak combo. I found a site moodeals.com and they had it almost 100 cheaper than any other place. I called my local west marine and they price matched and garaunteed service if I ever needed it.
I essentially ended up with the combo for the price others are charging for the unit alone.

It arrived yesterday and I took my time to I stall. I measured a bunch and drilled once. I replaced the self tapping screws with machine screws and backed them with larger washers to give stability and strength to the kayak. I just need to find a way to plug the big hole I had to drill for the power and trans cables to pass through.
The unit it smaller than I thought but looks great! I cannot wait to get it on the water tomorrow.

Hey Nu2salt…Congrats on your new kayak accessory and I have heard good things about that model!!
Most of us down here that fish tidal creeks, marshes and inshore do not have them, but there is a TON on info on the Gakayakfishing website…and whole forum I believe. They fish larger and deeper bodies of water like Lakes Allatoona and Lanier, so they need that function, and there are many chips (Navionics is one) that you can get for various areas…
Good Luck!!! Sounds like you did well…JohnYaksJax
PS: Here is a link to a post I authored about them on JKF, but I have not gotten one yet:

I bought this model because it has the gps as well. When I go to HH or PI in SC it will come in handy. I also go to Florida once or twice a year and I don’t want to get lost in some back country marsh.
I have already used it on Allatoona with some success.
Thanks for the link

I’m guessing you are also nu2yaks? www.moodeals.com is the bomb-thanks.
Check www.captdick.net under fishfinders, he has those hole covers(clams) you are looking for.
Thanks
I actually met Stan from capt dicks the other day and he is super nice guy.
