were everywhere yesterday…does that mean the reds will still be up on the flats? What’s your experience?
In my experience, they stop wandering and foraging on fiddlers on the grass flats when the water drops below about 60. Their behavior is now their typical winter-time, tuck in behind the first line or patch of grass on a flat, stay grouped up, and hunker down. I saw it all day yesterday. When you saw a few “sunning” in the grass from a distance, there were dozens more with them close to the bottom that you couldn’t see until it was too late or you caught 1 then they all blew out. This pattern will typically persist until March or April.
I have a similar question… I was on the beach at low tide the other night, and in a tidal pool there was a school of mullet that probably averaged 7 inches, in other words…redfish food. Are the reds still running our beaches or do you think that is done? Thanks in advance
It has definitely slowed, but with this warm weather, mullet are on the move. The reds will obviously be where food is plentiful, so I would bet surf fishing will be pretty good for the bulls as long as there is lots of bait running the beaches.
Thanks RD, Maybe I’ll get the kids out this week.
