Fiddlers / Nearshore this weekend

Hey guys and gals -

Can anyone tell me if they are catching any fiddlers now and if yes, are you having to dig them up?

Are there any bait stores that have fiddlers?

New to fishing Charleston area - what ramp is best to access the jetties and then on out to the nearshore reefs?

Weather looks good for my little boat this weekend.

Appreciate any and all info!

Jim

Check with the local fishing stores for fiddlers. They have them year round and not too expensive, easier than digging them up yourself. I mostly use the Wappoo ramp. It’s not a bad run out to the jetties but you may find another option that suits you better depending on where you live. I will be offshore this weekend. According to the others on this site, never, ever, mention the weather. It’s bad karma.

Olde Man Charters

Word to the wise. Hadrells Mt. P was out on Tuesday. Asked if they thought they would get some by the weekend. They didn’t sound hopeful. If anybody finds them for sale let me know.

Olde Man - sorry, did not know mentioning current or future “”…"" conditions was taboo - similar to having bananas on the boat! All apologies.

I called Haddrells today (Thursday) and they were not hopeful regarding fiddlers for this weekend.

Saw where a guy in Savannah was digging them up 2-3000 per day but I do not know exactly the process for this.

Planning on coming down this weekend one way or the other.

Best of luck to all.

Hey Jim. Try calling the Charleston Angler on Hwy 61. They may have some. And local divers have reported lots of sheephead on the Charleston Nearshore Reef.

Check under the Offshore Reports. 1/14 Sheephead to see what’s out there.

Will do Olde Man - and many thanks !

I reached out to the guy in Savannah that dug up the fiddlers and missed his return call. If he provides any insight, I will share.

Looks like Charleston Angler is not gonna have any either.

Will scout about on Saturday and see if I can find some !

We were at the nearshore reef a couple days ago and did not see the bouy marker. Is it still there? I only knew I was at the right spot cause I had it marked on my fishfinder.

She thinks were just fishin…

Get some clams from the seafood market bring a hammer and hook em up. They stay on longer than fiddlers.

Great idea Lunasea!

If you fully freeze shellfish before shucking for bait it makes it a lot easier, also the micro mussels that grow in clusters works well used whole and smashed.

Went out Monday near shore, took frozen clams, fresh oysters and deep holed shrimp. We caught the most sheep on the shrimp. Keep the bait off the bottom.

I was able to catch a few fiddlers yesterday about midday. They were out in the sun, didn’t need to dig them at all.

Crosby’s seafood on Folly is where I like to get them. They seem larger and a better count.
