filbin creek/cooper trout

fished the high tide at filbin today.water was the usual root beer color at the mouth of the creek,so i moved down the bank towards noisette.fishing along the bank area i caught 6 trout all on 1/4 redhead jig with electric chicken.they wouldnt touch the doa shrimp or anything else i threw at em.all fish were right at legal limit,so they were released.had a heck of a time keepin the boat straight.but,i will learn.this is definately different than canoe fishing.i could have caught twice as many if not for all the time spent maneuvering the boat.there must have been 5 boats in the spot down towards the paper mill that alot of people fish.dont know if they caught any though.the water there looked terrible.not bad though for my first fishin in the boat.i can see why people have longer boats with rudders.i will have a longer boat in the near future.until then,i can make it work.also forgot to mention, forgetting my anchor probably cost me a few fish too.4 of the fish were caught in one area, and i had to keep maneuvering back into position to get back at them.i learned alot today, and can see how this kayak fishin can be real successful.:stuck_out_tongue:

Good job on the trout! You’ll only forget that anchor once! It sucks having to try to manuever the boat in and around a good spot. You gotta check out those shad body electric chickens they worked well.

Matt

i use the saltwater assassins mostly.but,i also use the redfish magic
brand too.they have both worked real well for me.got to get better at maneuvering boat.

Do you anchor from the front, back, or side?

I have one of those cute little kayak anchors. I guess I’ll have to rig some type of pulley system.
Thanks,

If you search kayak fishing there is a website, kayakfishing.com or some such and it shows how to rig a pulley system. I rigged one up and it wasn’t too hard and it definitely comes in handy.

Hawg dont do it!
You know you will look like a huge slab of bacon to those low country gators and surley disapear… i needs ma fishin buddy

Ain’t no gators in Filbin Creek. Pollution killed them all.

somebody forgot to tell the gators that.youre right though.its the dirtiest i ever seen it.trash all in the water,it is unbelievable.im gonna move on to better places fo sure.its a shame, because the trout arent far away at all,and its a pretty easy paddle to em.if you go out of the creek and turn right and go down a short ways, the trout are usually thick.just far enough to get out of the root beer colored water.around the big set of docks has been real good.it really is a shame about that place.
