I have a 115HP Oceanrunner mid nineties model. The ram on the power trim and tilt is starting to leak some and I believe the unit is getting low on fluid as it just started making a funny noise. The oil fill port I see is about 1/2 down on the resavour. The cap is plastic and has a small flat head screw in the middle of the cap. How do you fill it? Do you remove the entire cap or just the screw in the middle? Do you have to use a lower unit pump to pump oil in or is there another fill point that I am missing? Is ATF ok to use or do I have to purchase trim and tilt fluid? I am just wanting to get by on this for a few weeks until I can pull the boat and do a full repair on the seal kit on the ram with the boat on the trailer. Thanks in advance for the help!
Can use ATF fluid in a pinch, better to use ptt fluid tho. --IMPORTANT— There will be a flat head (more then likely) realease screw that you have to turn in order to lower the motor manually in order to relieve the pressure before filling it. Most resivoirs have a flat headed cap that will unscrew once pressure is released by lowering the motor entrely then one can just pour fluid from bottle into it.

If I lower the motor manually then I cannot get to the resvoir to refill? Can I use the motor lock to lock the motor in the upright position then release the pressure with motor resting on the motor lock and then refill? Is the pressure release screw on the resvoire cap on somewhere on the p/t unit? Also the fill cap appears to be 1/2 down the resvoir, does the resvoir only get filled up 1/2 way or do you pump fluid in?
Yes, you can do that as well, relsase screw is usually on the ptt pump, not resovoir, normally don’t have to pump the fluid in. Not 100% sure on that model, might want to google it for manual on it to be on safe side, or Chris V. might know offhand and will chime in, he’s the local guru!![]()
