Fin-Allie 4-30

Kicked off the dock expecting a little more ocean that there was. What a beautiful day. Paced ourselves at 25 knts to try to conserve some fuel- could have slept on the pulpit.

Started at SW Banks seeing if maybe something would have showed up in the last week, but no one home. Pushed on up to the 060 where we’ve been finding some fish the last few weeks. Ended up in a bonito-donkey fest. Biggest about 55#. Got through that and pushed out a little deeper. Found some fish in 215’ water and picked at them, putting 5 in the box. Started getting some short cuts and misses. Greg came down to try to hone the bad mojo off the hooks. He also put on a gaffing display poking one fish right through the eyes. Next fish we came tight on so it must have worked; nice 25# blackfin. Pushed out deeper and south to see if we could find some green fish but didn’t find anything. Ended the day back at the banks…picked them up early and headed in. Sharks everywhere out there.

Tally for the day was 5 blackfin, 1 yellowfin tuna (really), 5 donkeys, a bonito, & a 7’ dusky. Hopefully something will stand up in the SCSSA.

Trolling valves are the ticket…cleaned up our water nicely. Can’t wait to get south and see if we can wrangle something with a bill in the Dolphin Days tourney.

Was it at least a keeper YFT or a throwback?

The boat looks good on the water Greg.

keeper, yes stud, no like butter off the filet knife.

Well, at least you got to taste some yellowfin! I wish I could say the same.

William, nice day on the tuners. Sorry to hear about the donkey show on a tournament day. Good luck in the SCSSA.

Steve

Good job William & Gregg, thats a good way to break in the new boat!!!

Thanks fellas. Finally, some fish in the freezer!

Do you have a pic of the yellowfin? Been a long time since i have seen one!

didn’t take any pictures while fishing. Thought about taking a picture of the filets side by side, but was up to my elbows in fish and didn’t want to funk up my phone.
Thanks for the kind words all…managed to place 2nd & 3rd Tunas in the SCSSA and missed a rebate in aggregate by 0.30#. 1 slinger would have saved us a few benji greens.

I know, without a picture it doesn’t count…
