Kicked off the dock expecting a little more ocean that there was. What a beautiful day. Paced ourselves at 25 knts to try to conserve some fuel- could have slept on the pulpit.
Started at SW Banks seeing if maybe something would have showed up in the last week, but no one home. Pushed on up to the 060 where we’ve been finding some fish the last few weeks. Ended up in a bonito-donkey fest. Biggest about 55#. Got through that and pushed out a little deeper. Found some fish in 215’ water and picked at them, putting 5 in the box. Started getting some short cuts and misses. Greg came down to try to hone the bad mojo off the hooks. He also put on a gaffing display poking one fish right through the eyes. Next fish we came tight on so it must have worked; nice 25# blackfin. Pushed out deeper and south to see if we could find some green fish but didn’t find anything. Ended the day back at the banks…picked them up early and headed in. Sharks everywhere out there.
Tally for the day was 5 blackfin, 1 yellowfin tuna (really), 5 donkeys, a bonito, & a 7’ dusky. Hopefully something will stand up in the SCSSA.
Trolling valves are the ticket…cleaned up our water nicely. Can’t wait to get south and see if we can wrangle something with a bill in the Dolphin Days tourney.
