Fin Nor OFC 16/20L star drag reel

Anyone have an opinion on this little powerhouse? 35bs of drag and lower gear ratio seems to fit the bill for what I’m looking for (30lb. mono bottom fishing reel) to replace my old 112H 3/0. For some reason I feel like Sells has one, or remember reading on here he had one. Trying to decide between the narrow 16 model or the 20 for 30lb test. Seeing what the CF crew thought.

Don’t know about that reel, but it seems like with 30 lb mono just about any reel would do. Put some 60 or 80 lb braid on it and take advantage of some of that drag!

Why are ya set on 30 lb test? With 35 lbs of drag, I’d put much heavier braid on it, like 65 bare minimum, more like 80 or 100. You’d never be able to use more than probably 15 or 20 lbs of drag with 30 lb test without the line popping with a fish on.

Ordered the 16 size today. I was undecided on the braid route or mono simply because I fish headboats as well. But after reading this and other advantages I’m going that route for sure. How long of mono or fluoro topshot do most of you guys run for bottom fishing 100-250ft? Favorite braid to mono/fluoro knot? I know some use just a barrel swivel instead. Any other tips I’m all ears. Thanks guys

Red Phillips knot to about 15 or 20’ feet of mono for me.

braid to swivel with leader on other side of swivel- leader gonna depend on what u doing but 6-8ft at most

this is what I like for my jigging/casting rod except I use flouro topshot. sebile knot has better knot strength, but I haven’t spent the time to master it, red phillips is super easy to tie and is sufficient for my needs at least

for chicken rig or live bait rod, I run braid straight to a swivel (barrel or 3 way), then attach whatever rig I want to use
