Fin-Nor reels?

Anybody been using them? Comments?

I have fished the Offshore series with Gut Wrench from the forum and they seem like awesome reels. Smooth Drag throughout the range. The Lethal I am still skeptical of its a hard to build a reel and compare it to a Saragosa or Stella and only charge $129 for it. Also had a friend purchase an LT100 and break it from the rod at the reel seat.

What reels were you looking at ??

I currently use Quantums Boca & Cabo in 60,70 series and LOVE them. 99% of my saltwater fishing is Surf/ bottom fishing. I’m looking for a smaller reel to put on a 7’ Penn Squadron to test some umbrella jig rigs. My 60’s at 24oz. will wear you out after a while of casting. A reel in the 12-14oz, 30-40 series? Was looking at the LT40, 12.9oz or a Quantum CSP40 at 13.3oz. Don’t need to spend a lot of $, since the reel would see little use. Looking for something smooth and light that casts well.

get the boca…

“mr keys”

Yeah kinda leaning that way. They have been flawless, fished hard in the surf. Couple of them have 6 seasons. Cleaned and oil, run like new.

the Finor Lethal and Offshore spin are both top notch.

If I were you I would take a look at the new mag sealed Diawas

Which Diawa models do you recommend hurricane? Most are kinda pricey.

I have a pair of Fin Nor LT40s with 12 lb mono for light tackle reef and backcountry fishing in FL. I also have a whole set of Penn SSVs that I have been happy with but I wanted to try to Fin Nors to see how the finish holds up in comparison to the Penns. Plus I found them online for $75 a piece. So far, inve been very pleased. I think the handle arm is a hair longer than the SSVs which gives more torque. I would not hesitate to buy more.

Not spinning reels but I bought a buy one get one free deal a few years ago. You bought a Santiago and got a Marquesa free. The Santiago has been a pretty good reel on the trolling set up. The Marquesa I have on a Coach acid wrap rod spooled with 60lb braid, it has been great for bottom fishing.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

The Ballistic or Procyon. They both provide price points less than $200

I’m the guy hurricane is referring to. I broke it on the GutWrench. They were easy to deal with. I contacted customer Service and they said send it back. It was about a 3 week turnaround due to a short backorder at the time.
I was TRYING to break this. I have video on YouTube playing with aj’s.
I caught several sharks 100+lbs. it finally gave on a small AJ. For the record, that fish was sentenced to death.
I have a brand new one that I intend to do the same thing with this year.

I also have the LT-80. I like it too. I caught a 90-100lb tarpon on it last year.
The 80 is spooled with 50PP
The 100 is spooled with 100PP.

10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.

I have 4 Lethal LT100s and no issues…as well as an Offshore 9500 that is clunky and the antireverse sometimes sticks (I’ve never opened it up), but it is a good reel otherwise.
There is a special for Lethals ordered within a certain timeframe for “free” William Joseph Surf bags that are waterproof and pretty nice for the $9.95 S/H fee. Got 2 of them last week. Would make good tackle/boat/beach bags. Pelagic Outfitters sells the Lethal 100s spooled with braid for $129.99.

i have a couple of LT100’s, coming from the original penn 9500 that has caught easy over 50 yellowfin with some over 100#. the lethals are good reels, but not great. the 40 and 80 are totally different internally from the 100’s FYI. the spool is not aligned correctly on one that causes the line to wind tapered. the drag is pretty smooth, but i am comparing to my buddy’s stellas so there is a little price point difference there.

if i were to go it again, i would get the cabo.

The Lethals come with thin washers to stack to get the line to spool evenly, jsyk.

Thanks for all the input and comments, I’ve got a Quantum bsp40ptsd on the way. Figured I go with what I know works for me.

Thanks again, Happy Fishing!

Just came today. New to me of EBay. Gonna try it out when the Specks move into the surf. Can’t wait!!!

Don’t confuse the fin nor Lethal with the OFS reels. The OFS are big heavy tanks with dog leg anti reverse. Clunky for jigging (but I still do it) and you won’t ever break one from the reel seat. I’m taking some of my OFS 6500s down to Venice for some big yellowfin on the rigs in a few months and I don’t worry one bit about the reel strength or having enough drag.
I bought them for $100 online because I wanted a beastly reel that I didn’t have to worry about babying like my inshore spinning reels. Just wash them down and keep them greased up and they are good to go.

I have the Quantum Cabo 80 and it was great the first 5 cobia. Then it started reeling hard and I found corrosion inside the reel after taking it apart. Not impressed. I’ll be happy to give to anyone if they need parts.

I have Fin Nor Santiago’s and Marquesa’s and they have been great the last two years. I have used and abused them bottom fishing and they are still strong. I also got these in the buy a santiago get a marquesa free deal. If they had that again I would load up! It was at tackle direct. I have the Santiago 16’s and the Marquesa 30’s

The best spinning reels I have used are the Shimano Stradics. I now have 4 8000’s and they have been bulletproof.

I used to like the penns but the new ones have issues. The old SS series was great.

I also have some Daiwa reels that are great too.
