Hi guys i haven’t posted much this yr, i have been fishing but its about the same results as others so no sense being redundant.
But Saturday went out to do a dive on the vermillion wreck something i have wanted to do for several yrs. First boat there and dropped an Ascent Descent line after several trys got it hooked on the wreck. Went down with my brother and friend. passed thru brutal thermo cline at 50-60 ft got a bit chilly from there down. Viz wasn’t great but could see 20-30ft at the wreck. Wasn’t spearing as first time on the wreck and wanted to explore it. Very cool and impressive, lots of BSB , many AJs and spades. Didn’t see a grouper either moved out or fished out not sure which! Cut dive even shorter than my planned bottom time to recover a nice Franklin anchor and chain, sorry guys finders keepers as i have lost several anchors to the sea i was happy to get one back. Came to surface and fished here for several hrs with 6 or 7 boats vying for position. Let another dive group use my line and they gratelfully recovered it for me after there dive as it was stuck good.
Our bottom fishing efforts here resulted in 15 keeper BSBs 40-50 going back for size issues (to short). Several bruiser AJS, and two nice Cobia hit jigs. 40-50 lb range very nice came from the bottom and thought they were large grouper till we saw em boat side. Hooked up two very large Barracuda for entertainment. Move in to a shallow reef , Hector to dive again not much to see there except alot of Spades they were everywhere and several boats were loading up on em. Any of you guys that dive here regular care to share some possible lobster #s with me my wife wants a bug. I have not dove SC enough to find her one. Trust me i won’t rape your #s just impress her with a lobster or two.
Send me a PM if you care to share some dive spots 70ft or less , i suppose all my fishing #s some might work out as dive spots just will have to try them. if i get no help
Shoot me a PM or give me a call if you have my number. You can often find lobster on the Vermillion if you know where to look.
