Finally fixed motor... Where are the fish?

Two months of rebuilding motor after blowing cylinder head assy and so happy to be back out on the water… But can’t find the reds! Had them dialed in back in June and have always done great in September but have only had two missed hits during four short outings. Has it been slower this September for anyone else? I’ve used cut mullet, live mullet, live shrimp on cork… Not much luck. Definitely have loaded up on mullet and shrimp though.

Dear Sham…Target low tide early in the AM on a new moon. Of course a waning light late afternoon works also, but I don’t like running in the dark on the way back to the landing if I can avoid it. Fish will move up into the grass as the tide rises. The “bite” will come with the tide somewhere a 1/4 to 1/2 way up in the grass, and your bait needs to be right on the edge of the grass. Once the fish can move into the grass, it’s over. They will hunt the flats and pockets in the marsh at that point. I like cut mullet as the scent distribution is better than whole live bait( try a few cuts on a live finger mullet to get it bleeding), and I use a fish finder rig with flat or bank sinkers to lessen hang ups. I try to fish with light weight, but the casting distance and tide flow will have much to say about it. Of course you can cast grubs, and such, if your wrist doesn’t mind the work. Mine does. The falling water temp. turns on the fish, so it should be good right on through October. Good fishermen can catch fish on any tide, all year long. I’m not one of them, so I concentrate on the Spring and Fall cycles to improve my chances.
