I fished Bushy Park this morning. The first place I went surprised me because there was no bait, no activity at all. I thought maybe all the rain had something to do with it so I ran a few miles down almost to the end of Yellowhouse Creek. I went up a feeder creek to a spot I had fished before, a ledge that dropped from 6’ down to 12’ all the way across the creek. The trout were stacked up on the ledge and hit anything and everything I tried. Live finger mullet under a float worked best but caught plenty on Zman paddle tails. Kept two 16" or so, caught probably thirty and at least half were over 14".

Great morning, any bait activity in that area, or were they Waiting for tide change maybe?

When you go out and catch over 30 trout in a trip, you have done something in my book! Sounds like you had a blast. You keep that up and you’ll be competition For Hillcocks… SP. the gentleman from Louisiana. He hasn’t posted in a bit.

I checked the first area later on my way back. It’s usually loaded with bait regardless of tide but it still was void of activity. Others may disagree but I think it was from all the rain probably lowering the salinity. A few miles further down the bait was still thick. Trust me, my catch was nothing like the guy who used to post those awsome catches from Louisiana but it dang sure was good for me. Always good when I learn something or change plans and it works.

I’m by far any expert on Trout, but I do have a couple areas in the ACE basin that will produce trout when we have dry weather, but never after a good rain. Trout seem much more affected by salinity than Spot Tail.
I know that was a good time. You gotta love those days! And if you didn’t even get rained on, you’re doing something right

Thanks for the report! I am ready to catch some trout…it has been too long since I found some stacked up like that!
I was surprised. My last few trips had ended up with one or two then last week got into a bunch of shorts. Finally able to call the wife and say “plan on having fish tonight”
