Well, I have a tractor with bucket and implements (disc Harrow, bushhog, boxblade, rake, and one row corn planter). I also have a little push planter that is freaking awesome. I used the little push planter to plant the egyptian wheat. That thing works so well. I also have what I call a mule for making rows. It is a serious time saver too.
This is the mule. It is old, but I put a brand new engine on it. The engine is the only thing that can actually go bad.

Skeeter has a mule! When I was a kid just about every one with a small garden had one… or so it seemed. Don’t see them so often now.
20 oct to 20 nov is IMO the best time in the lowcountry for Deer, Large Mouth Bass(well maybe march for those) Spot tail, and Trout.
I get the opportunity to see a lot of private land and a variety of food plots. You and 23Sailfish have done a great job. What’s so neat about it is all the other wildlife that benefits from it.
Fred,
From my research, only one company in the world still makes something similar: The Plow Hoss. My mule is the best thing since sliced bread. I don’t know of an easier way to subsoil fertilizer, and then plant over the top of the fertilizer. I suppose a very expensive planter has a similar concept, but a big ole expensive planter don’t help me one bit in my smaller plots.
Planted the left side in Egyptian Wheat, and I planted the right side in Lab Lab and Brown Top Millet:
A zoomed out view:
And, the deer are still coming. The still don’t seem to care about it being as open as it is right now, but all that will change when the EW gets up around 3 feet tall right before opening day.:

You just shoot them off your back porch, don’t you Larry:smiley:
Skeeter, built that stand to Government specifications! You have a port-a-potty up in there:question: Nice work on all of it Skeeter! Now the question is, how you keep people out of it when your not there:question:
Dang, that’s impressive! Yall sure go to a lot of trouble just to kill a deer [:0]

I don’t get to get my hands dirty at work anymore, so I get great satisfaction from getting out there in the country and dusting up my boots occasionally. I can assure you that Skeeter has put more sweat equity into his place as I have help with the heavy stuff on my land. But I’ve been trying to do anything small myself like clearing lanes, building stands, planting trees, placing small food plots and just overall taking care of the property.
Just like a house, there’s always work to do if you look hard enough.
Easy,it is less than 200 yards from my backdoor of the house, and my property is butted up against a really good friend of mine’s land. He has 400 acres. That is a pretty good long ways to try and get to my little stand. Otherwise, they would have to come through my yard and my shotgun.

Oh, Cracker…it won’t be any trouble at all next year now that I have built it. Next year will really be as simple as planting what I have built. If you build it, they will come!

Always work to do if you look hard enough??? I would argue that there is just always work to do. Heck, if I walk away for a month, the jungle will take over my place!!! Always work! And more work! ha,ha. Yeap…thanks…I seriously have some sweat equity in my little hunting spot. This year is going to be good, but next season is going to be 10 times better.

Skeeter, my next door neighbor has a Mule just like yours, still has the original engine, heck of a machine. He’s got 2 tractors, but still uses the Mule.

I know right…that thing is soooo awesome for making rows and cleaning up weeds along the rows. My original engine was still running, but it would run rough once it got real hot. Instead of wasting time rebuilding it, I just got a brand new engine for it for just a little more in price. I love that mule–especially for my garden.

quote:I sure am jealous of the ol' Swamp Worshipper. My front porch view is a street and several other houses.
The good news is the view is the same in all 4 directions. I’ve got a pistol, rifle and skeet range in the front yard too. I’ve been in the swamps for too long, couldn’t ever live in a city again, not comfortable there at all for me. Not going to happen. i’d rather live in a tent.
These deer are so used to me being outside that they walk up in the yard anytime of day while I’m out working. I can usually walk up to within 10 feet of them. I almost never shoot one, unless they really need removing from the garden.
This one I took from my shop with a cell phone. She walked up to watch me do some boat work. They aren’t even scared of the dog. Very elusive critters, these deer
If I could photoshop, maybe my pictures would be better. I suck as a photographer.

Same here. The jungle will over run us quick if we don’t keep up. We built 1/2 mile of road, with ditches, cleared enough for a comfortable long term campsite, dug a latrine and a well, cleared a one acre home site, all with chainsaw, shovel, swing blade, pick ax and truck. Then built a house, and a pump house, and a work shop. Cleared another 2 acres for a garden, then another acre for a blueberry field. I’ve dug more stumps than a field slave. Ain’t digging no more. Except the wife wants to double the size of the blueberry field this fall[:0] I’m calling in heavy equipment!
This is my deer stand in the swamp. All the comforts of home:smiley:
I do keep 4 ladder stands out for guests, don’t want them to get too soft.
You can rent a 6-8000lbs escavator for cheaper and dig the stumps yourself. A 32E Bobcat makes a quick mess of most stumps. I dug at least 60 stumps out of my shooting lane and ditched it all in one day with that little escavator. Just a thought if you want to save a few bucks. You get hydraulic power, but it is a lot easier on your back side.
Oh, I planted everything Saturday morning. Luckily, I got some good rain. Now, a good bit is already popping out the ground. I bet I will see a major difference in growth by Friday when I get home.
