My friend made the legs too long, but that turned out to be great. I put the feet on the bottom of the legs and just buried them about 18" deep in order to set the ports at the right height. I say it was great because by burying the feet that deep, I think I eliminated the need to stake down the feet. It won’t blow over. So, right now the drum is 2/3 full with seven 40lbs bags of corn inside and three bags on the ground to get them warmed up to the feeder. I bet they will be eating out of it by this Friday when I get home.
My next step is to plant 100lbs of soybeans, 50lbs or cow peas, and 50lbs or sorghum 7 days before opening day. That will keep them busy until 1 October when I plant oats. My corn guy called Sunday as well, so I’m picking up 3000lbs of corn this coming Saturday. That corn should take me to mid October at a minimum. After I plant seven days before opening day, the landlord cometh on 1 September to start collecting rent from all the free handouts those democrat deer have been getting!!!
Oh, and except for planting, I will fill everything packed full this weekend and back out completely until opening day. They will have a 30 day party until the grim reaper cometh to collect steaks and hamburger as rent payment.

Double dayumm [:0] Last I bought was $10 per 50. Cheaper by the truck load I reckon. You could buy a butchered cow for the price of 3,000 pounds of corn!
Can’t put a price on having fun though, and Lord knows I’ve spent plenty having fun:smiley:
Right now it is $38 per 55 Gallon drum. 8 drums is 3000lbs. So, $304 for 3000lbs versus the same from TSC in 50lbs bags…TSC price would be $540. I save $236. I’m good with that, and I will only have to do it twice for the whole season. Oh, use plastic drums though if you decide to do somethig like I’m doing. Metal drums condensate and ruin the corn very quickly; plastic drums don’t condensate, so I easily keep corn in them for months with no problems.

Whoooohoooo. My tractor is up and running again. The air bleed screw on the side of the injection pump had slowly backed itself out. So, that makes sense as to why it was progressively getting worse and more frequent in its little intermittent episodes. Cool, because I need my tractor Saturday worse than bad to carry corn and a ladder stand into the woods.

I have been looking at your set up and wow! what an awesome looking area you set up! That’s really getting me excited about next month. Also, I was wandering where you get the corn by the barrel? That would save me a ton of money so I don’t have to buy the bags. If it is a private deal I understand, thanks.
Skeeter, Tractor Supply has the 50# brown salt/mineral blocks on sale for $6.50
Hard to believe only 15 days. Man time is flying.
Let me get your thoughts on this.
I have put out that Deer Cocaine at a hunting club in Ga. and they deer would tear it up for years, digging it up. They would stop around 1st of Sept and never bother it again until spring of the next year.
I tried it on Ladys Island and no action whatsoever…perhaps due to plenty of salt water around??

DoubleN, I wish I had a scientific answer for you, but what I’m about to say is just observation and a few other friends ideas on it. I’d say you are spot on with it around Lady’s Island. Deer don’t need the salt. I’m in Colleton County and have seen some areas that the deer go fool over a salt block. Actually watched a buck take his hoof and stomp/strike at it repeatedly and then eat lick at it. I’ve seen deer stand right next to cows and lick on a mineral/salt block It’s just an enhancement for a baited stand and very cheap to boot.
Want something really cool, buy a cheap plastic jar of peanut butter use a 1" hole saw and then screw it to a tree. You will be amazed how a deer will lick it clean as a whistle.

Funny you mention the peanut butter. I put a jar out (jus
Well, I have kind of been off the site for a few days…been busy. I met DoubleN the other day. Heck of a nice guy. He brought me some galvanized steel mesh. I appreciate the heck out of it too. Wow, this month has been a first for meeting folks on this forum, and I met two in two weeks. Both Partners-Ship and DoubleN are great people. I was telling DoubleN, you just never know. As we get older, you never know when you just might get stuck in the river or something silly and need help. When the time comes for needing help, family might be predeposed or out of pocket…then, that is when friends come in to help out sometimes. I hope to meet more great folks from here in the future.
