nothing big and fancy, but finally got myself a yak so i can fish a ton of other places i wanna try but cant access from shore. mounted a couple eye bolts in the front and cleats a bit behind for tying off, anchoring, bait bucket, stringer, … and found the anchor actually stays up front pretty well held down with a bungee cord. just shy of 10 feet so wont be too hard to move whenever i get transferred to a different command, yet plenty of leg room even though im 6 foot 3. 45lbs and padded sides so no problem to toss it over 1 shoulder to carry it either. has 2 rod holders in the back (1 gets used for a landing net) and one in the front (holds a redneck rigged camera mount). the cargo area in the back is a bit small but i have no problem fitting a tackle tray between the side of the seat and the hull either.

ill probably have too much fun with this from time to time
dowel rod has a nail through it to fit in between the ridges of the rod holder and its held steady by rubber bands looped around the bottom of the eyebolts and dowel rod. i did say redneck rigged but it works great!

unsuspecting raccoon

a bit close, but will be able to fit fish in the frame no problem whenever i have a decent day

view to the front

only taken it to bushy park so far but that list will grow in time. i see paddleboarders there all the time so id imagine breach inlet area where it isnt choppy would probably be safe? not gonna take it out in ocean swells by any means but breach inlet and possibly folly lighthouse are other
Good deal, looks like it is all coming together. One suggestion. The anchor you have is overkill. You may want to look into a collapsible grappling anchor. They hold a kayak just fine and are a lot lighter and take up far less room. Or, you may want to consider some type of anchor pin. Just a thought.
X2 on the anchor. You should be able to stay in place with a cheap dumbell and some paracord.

Congrats on the new kayak…

ive actually had the anchor attached for quite a while now. i used to rent out 14-16 foot canoes from base all the time and since i was using them a lot bought an anchor so i could stay where i wanted to cast from. i was thinking it was going to be a bit big for a yak at first too and sure ill admit bigger than i really need but hasnt proven to be a hassle yet so good enough for who its for but i am always open for suggestions from others. if it does end up a hassle later down the road then yes id invest in a smaller anchor. any other suggestions?
Ya, I just use a 3lb dumbell and it works more then well.
I’m so salt life I get land sick.
If you can find any large pieces of bamboo, these work perfectly as a stake out pole. Tie some rope on and you’re ready to go, it’s also extremely cheap too.
I can add in on the dumbell. I actually up’d mine to an 8# just to deal with currents from the tides. I alsom made a stake out pole out of 1" pvc. I filled it with a 7/8’ dowel rod, cut it on a 45 degree angle and epoxied the end. Both work great.
Ski pole is the best stake out pole ive come across

Nice brookie in your avatar Hokieflyguy.
Many go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.
Thank you Mountain Man. That fish resides in Colorado. Looks like you’re familiar with that state

Nice meeting you today. I was in the Cuda at the ramp. Hope you had better luck on the fresh water side
