Starting Monday June 6 I will be ready to learn.
Any recommendations for an inshore guide / charter?
I want to do a session or a few to learn how things have changed in the 40+ years since I’ve last lived near salt water. I figure learning from a pro will be offset by the cost/time of lost catch and bait. I am interested in inshore only as I will be fishing from shoreline or possibly from kayak.
There are several great local guides to choose from. I suggest to contact John Fuss at Holy City Fishing Charters. You will enjoy being on the boat with him and will learn more in one trip with him than several trips on your own. Good luck, hope this helps. (also you wont have to drive over that big ole bridge either lol)

Thanks for the info. I will look up John.

I’ll second John Fuss. Great fella to fish with.
THANKS again! I have house guests now through Sunday and they do not enjoy fishing. I will sched half day with John first day next week when weather and his sched allow.

Eric, keep us posted on how it goes please!
Rap, I have all day 8/7 and half day 8/8 reserved with your boy Harlan! August can’t get here fast enough, I am pumped up already! (pretty sure it was you who suggested him)

Harlan is a character for sure. Give him a pack of cigarettes with the gratuity. He’ll love it.
No problem! After a few beers I may burn one with him myself! LOL

If you are talking about Piner Wahoo, I follow his “exploits” on THT. Hoping my son gets him as a Captain at Seabase.

I wouldn’t know, I don’t bother with that site. I mean I can appreciate some smart ass and funny comments as much as the next guy but the monotony of theirs is just too much for me.

I’m with ya Stumpknocker, I can’t even tolerate reading THT. It doesn’t fit my disposition at all.
As far as advice, don’t wait until the last minute to book a trip. Most of the good guides are booked weeks in advance and are not sitting by the phone waiting on you to call for tomorrow. The one’s who are, well…

I checked, That is Capt, Harlan Tramell (aka Piner Wahoo). He appears to be the real deal and one of the guides Rapchizzle recommended to me. I had planned to book a charter with him until a friend in Florida hooked me up with a friend of his with a deal I couldn’t refuse. I am debating talking to Capt. Trammell anyway as it would be a different kind of fishing from what we will be doing. Let us know how it goes.

Some charters don’t give up the good info or spots to locals for fear of them trying to use them for their information so it might be a good idea to be a very enthusiastic land locked tourist for a day trying to catch a trophy fish or have a day of a lifetime on the water. I definitely wouldn’t directly let them know that you are basically studying them.
Going with John Mon Jun 20, targeting sheepshead, redfish, trout.
