After reading this… Boat US wins

Well first let me say that I am a Boat US member so I am not biased in any way but, the acts of one Sea Tow guy should not negatively reflect on all Sea Tow operators. I have never heard anything but good things about Sea Tow in Charleston and, if Boat Us stopped offering services or I had a bad experience with them, I would not hesitate to go with Sea Tow. I think most of us would agree we are really fortunate to have 2 highly respected boating services in Charleston.

Reading through the thread there were a couple Sea Tow complaints… 0 Boat US complaints.
I live in Murrells Inlet, and i beleive there is no Sea Tow up here , so i have no experience with them.

I do see the Red boat on the water very often though.

The moral of that story is buy a $50 spare pump and keep it on board… maybe a manual pump as well.

5 years or so ago there were lots of bad reports about the local red towboats on this and other sites. They are under different mgmt now and are top notch.I have always had Seatow and am very happy.DF has it right.Anthony and Steve are both good folks.

After going back and reading the link,[:I],I don’t think either tow svc in Chas would have pulled this stunt, but we haven’t heard the other side either, have we?

I have been a SeaTow member for some time, and I have been towed twice by them. Been happy with my experience, and I do not regret spending the money each year in any way whatsoever.

Steve of TowBoatUS is now a personal friend of mine, however, and I have seen him go above and beyond for others even when it was to his direct detriment and even when they weren’t even customers. He simply always seems to be trying to do the right thing. I want to give him my business because of that, and that alone when I know the two services are relatively close as far as where I personally use my boat. In other words, Steve has impressed me so much that I’d pick him and his service if I had to decide between two services.

I don’t really want to make that decision, however, because I haven’t had the opportunity to get to know the folks at SeaTow besides hearing others who are personal friends of theirs speak highly of them. I know that when I have sent a SPOT message to people back on land that asked them to contact SeaTow with my position to come tow me, Anthony or Mike responded very quickly. They were on the radio within minutes, and I was able to relay back to them over radio that I no longer needed their assistance since someone out on the ocean helped me. It was a really good feeling to see those events unfold in that manner.

Maybe I’ll just do both…

My hats off to Towboat US they literally saved the life of a very good friend of mine.

It really does come down to folks behind the local operations. We’re lucky enough to have great folks involved with both companies in the Charleston area.

I have Towboat myself, and I am very confident that they will be there if I need them.

We have been with Anthony at SeaTow for a few years now and they have always treated us great…but we think the world of Steve also. both are class acts and good people. I dont think you could go wrong with either of them…but you should definately get one of them to cover your boat! Have a safe summer everyone!

I am a member of Sea Tow out of G’town and am very happy with their service. I’ve had to call them twice and they responded quickly both times.

If I were the Sea Tow owner/operator I might question accepting any members with a FICHT on the back of their boat.

pawayne…not to nit-picky, but i believe the correct spelling is FIXT

I my opinion, its the Captain that makes the service. I don’t care for the Tow Boat captain in G-vegas. Ritchie has always been friendly, and down to earth, and above all TRUSTWORTHY. He tries to have a re pore with his clientele, and that means a lot to me. When he tells you he’s on the way, you can take it too the bank. THATS why I use Sea Tow.

Defintly two top notch local orginizations run by very dedicated folks. I started off with SeaTow, then met the Littles with TowBoatUS and had both services for a while before settling into just TowBoatUS. Steve has gone out of his way on several occasions to donate generously to community events and such and stands up for us all against the feds in the fishing closure debacles. I’m sure the two companies both look at each other as a asset, not a liability to each other.
We are definitly fortunate to have two towing services here in Charleston that are both run by dedicated good folks.
