After a year battle of my dad debating of getting kayaks or a boat he decided, kayak’s. He started saving because he didn’t want to blow 4k+(my whole family is getting them) on something that is not a necessity and we are hoping to have some by the end of the summer. I myself am looking for a fishing kayak, no one else in my family fishes. I was watching a fishing show today that was using hobie kayaks and I really like the look of them(but will buy whatever is best). I do not want one with the feet paddles unless you can take the whole unit(the pedals and paddles) on and off with ease. I think I would like about a 13ft. kayak and a max of $1,000 preferably. It will need enough space for a milk crate and possibly a cooler(will have a cooler or a bait bucket. I know my dad wanted to buy new kayaks but if there is a complete steal, we will look into it. All help will be appreciated!!! Thank’s in advance!!!

I’d shop for used boats. There’s a lot of them out there nowadays and some are great deals. Save your money for other needed equipment.
Also, I’d try fishing out of a Hobie peddle boat before you buy one. There’s some disadvantages that usually have me grabbing one of my other fishing boats when I go out. (I have a Hobie Outback, OK Prowler 15 and WS Tarpon 160i) The Hobie is great for some reasons and not so great for others so you should borrow one to find out if it works for you.

Ha, ha, ever hear of the Dopler Effect?
The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
imo the 160 is nice if you expect to paddle long distances. the 140 is ok for that too but the 160 paddles/tracks a little nicer. The 140 would be fine for most kayak fisherpersons.
The tarpons are built to paddle nicely but they’re not the best for standing in. I’ve never been in a Ride 135 but I think they’re much better for standing.
14’ is perfect IMO. But a fishing kayak is generally a sit in top, and one that you can stand in is all the better. Save your money and go to dolphin saves place. Tell him you need to get it setup for fishing and have the money. I’m sure he’ll be glad to come out tell you what you need and install it on your kayak in the right spots for fishing. Rod holders in the right spot and ease of movement and getting everything is the key

Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.
You have to take a look at the Jackson Cuda. It’s a fishing machine. Myself and 3 of my buddies each bought one. It’s very well thought out, easy to paddle, and the seat is way more comfortable than the Ride 135. Cost is going to be a little above your budget but completely worth it IMO. Got mine from Time Out and they were extremely helpful answering my questions.
