This will be my first time coming down from the upstate this year and normally don’t come till the fall so I was just curious how hard bait is to catch his time of year?
Me and a friend will be fishing Out of Wapoo Cut nex weekend and fishing harbor, and running to a few nearshore reefs, we normally stock up on mullet in the creeks but didn’t know how hard it is to catch them his early in the year? Also will be looking to find some menhaden, where might I be able to find some around the harbor?
Thanks for any help I normally fish down there once or twice a year and my buddy never been so just trying to spend as much time fishing as possible instead of looking for bait.
I’ve been finding tons of mullet in the creeks at the lower tides. They’re very easy to catch if you have a trolling motor and a cast net. Look for ripples on the water. Once you spot a few of them and figure out what to look for, you’ll see them everywhere.

I enjoy hunting bait almost as much as actually fishing. Catching bait is part of the fun of the fishing experience for me.
It amazes me how frequently this question is asked.
But seriously bait hunting ain’t hard, just go slow down a small creek until you see disturbances, or throw at openings of little ditch creeks in the grass when they have water.
I am down until tomorrow and today I couldn’t find any live menhaden out on the water, I’ll be fishing the harbor can someone give a a general area to look for them, I very rarely fish down this way and don’t know the area very good! Thanks will be using wappoo cut boat ramp
