I’m looking at doing a remodification that will include a new hermco flotation bracket and am looking at hanging a four cylinder four stroke yamaha, suzuki four stroke, or etec of 140-200 hp. Looking at motors closest to 400lbs. Any local suggestions on finding a used outboard of this caliber? I’m assuming all of the dealers may have insight into people trading in motors and could take care of de rigging and selling the old motor and re rigging the new one. Suggestions, past experiences, etc. welcomed…

Here’s a list of the weights of some in that HP range. With the exception of the DF140, all of the 4 strokes in the power range are closer to 500lbs than they are 400lbs.
Suzuki DF140- 420lbs
Merc Optimax 135/150/175- 430lbs
Evinrude Etec 150/175/200- 420lbs
Yamaha F150/F175/F200 480lbs----inline 4 not V6
Unless you get one of the older 2strokes, I don’t think there’s anything at or under 400lbs.
as far as where to go, I’m in the same boat. I’ll likely be buy from out of state unless something local pops up. I haven’t seen much in Charleston for some reason though.
I won’t be buying for a few years most likely.
I search ebay and craigslist. When I get serious about buying, I’ll look on thehulltruth.com too and might contact some local dealers.

I realize the weight. There is an etec 140 that comes in under 400lbs. I was just meaning close to 400 lbs in general. I plan on putting on a fiberglass flotation bracket and getting rid of my armstrong bracket to account for an additional weight incurred.
