got a question.when riding around inshore how do you know when its a good spot to catch whiting.meaning is there certain things you look for when trying to catch whiting and flounder.will be coming down with my boat in a few weeks and wanted to go put my girl on some fish.thanks in advance.
The flounder and the whiting both like sandy bottoms. So anywhere off a sandbar in 4- 12 feet of water should work. I picked up a truck load of whiting while fishing down around St. Simons island GA. But that was a couple of months ago. I haven’t been able to fish for the last few months due to work. But I’m looking foward to getting out there soon now that the spot tails and trout are showing. Grandpa always said hit the saltwater in sept. and oct. Good luck with your trip.

appreciate that guys.will use that knowledge from you good guys.
Crackernecker, is that creek a bend or two north of bushy park on the cooper? That looks very similar to my favorite flounder spot.
As for targeting flounder… i look creeks with some decent depth with a shallow ledge as you near the grassh. I look for still spots surrounded by moving water, and most importantly, for the presence of some bait fish. I was up in the cooper a few days ago and we landed three flounder over 20 inches. Mud minnows and a popping cork for 2 of them, and a Gulp Shrimp on a 1/4 oz jig head for the other… cast onto the shore ledge just at the grass line and just slowly pull it over the drop.

Don’t know where you’re fishin but if you’re in the North Edisto, fish in the suds where the water is washing over the sand bar at the #9 green marker at Deveaux Bank, good place for kids as you can get out and surf fish if you want with little walking and the whiting are there right now, some of those big bulls but mostly just big enough to eat,fun for children on light tackle, carried my 2 nieces, 3yrs&6yrs last week-end and they had a blast.
You can’t catch fish on a dry line
Kevin,
That pic was taken in Edisto last March. I picked a few week fish but that was it. The fish weren’t doing that much inshore in March. But I still enjoy getting out there.

appreciate the help you guys
Does anyone know where you might catch some whiting around Bushy Park? We’ve tried for them in several places but haven’t been able to find any up that far. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There is not much structure to be found around Bushy…but I will take your advice. We fish around a couple of bridges regularly, but haven’t found any whiting.
