Fire on Morris Island

Did anyone else notice the fire on Morris Island last night (08/29)? I live on the back side of James Island…last night when I went to take out the garbage I looked out over the marsh and noticed an orange glow and flames higher than the tree line over at Morris Island. It was dark and right after the thunderstorm, so I didn’t know if lightning had started it or what was going on. I then decided I better call and report it, so I called 911…to make a long story short a fire truck ended up coming to my house to confirm and they told me that they had gotten word that possibly the Army Corps of Engineers was out there clearing land. They said they had called Folly Beach Fire Department and someone was going to ride down there to check it out.

I kinda felt like a dummie for calling, but I had heard nothing about this.

Bonzo would never kill as many trees as it would take to build a fire this big.

Nothing but a “SMART-ELLIC”!

was in the paper a few weeks ago…it is the clearing of the dredge spoil area closest to Cummings Point, in prep for the harbor deepening…can you imagine all the critters running up over the dike wall?
my dad saw the same thing and said it was an impressive fire…

Bonzo’s Dad called just to make sure Bonzo was not involved with whatever was going on:smiley: The sigh of relief was heard in MP:wink:

no doubt…check your Google Earth view of how big that spoil area is…that’s a lot of 20+ years-done nothing with it-scrub brush-stuff to burn…with the NE winds today it was actually smoky at my house in South Central Jimmy Isle…but I had a 40 so I was okeyizzle dokeyizzle…

They started the burn Thursday morning. I saw the smoke from the Jetties. Thursday evening the smoke settled on Sullivans Island so badly that it was very hazy.
