fireworks, any good way in and out with a boat?

Been debating on taking the family down to see the fireworks at P.P. Would like to view from the boat. Besides “DONT” is there any good suggestions on getting in and out by boat?

Haha, I hear you. But not necessarily the case. Lots of the older neighborhoods around Charleston have small private landings for residents. I know they are all up and down the Ashley.

lots of intoxicated peopleat and around the public landings on the fourth of july.

I can imagine novice boaters loading after dark with a tide… might make for some good video. It has viral YouTube all over it.

I would say if you are thinking it will be risky you are RIGHT. And it’s worse since you are out at NIGHT with some very iffy people steering. Not sure you would enjoy it… but we managed last year to get in and out of Ashley River landing at 526 with a designated captain.

You might check with some of the local marinas. They may let you dock overnight, for a fee. I know that Dolphin Cove used to allow for overnight docking.

Maybe do some night fishing and let the crowds thin out ? try the boat landing off of Virginia ave ? not the safest section of town but with the fireworks going on at the riverfront park, it would be very close and I can imagine the police would be out in force. However i’m sure that boat landing is just as crazy as the other ones…but you never know.

I’m not a drinker but I’m pretty sure there’s not enough whiskey on earth to get me drunk enough to put in a boat for the fireworks in the harbor.

Concur with all of the above. I would not travel far from your designated boat landing, and let the crowds subside. Double check your nav lights, designate a sober Captain. Mind the tides, and the iffy forecast.

dont haul azz if you dont know where your going!!

Two years ago we went to the Yorktown to watch them. They had a special ticket to be on the deck for the show. They limited the # of tickets sold and the crowd wasn’t too bad. The sold food and drinks including beer and wine. We got there early to look around the AC and then set up our chairs under the wing of a plane until the sun got low enough to be bearable. It was a good time. We had a great view of the fireworks show and getting off the AC wasn’t as bad as I though it would be. We parked alongside the road and NOT in the Yorktown parking area. That was a great move b/c it took a lot longer for cars to get out of the lots. We were staying a IOP and ran into a lot of traffic getting back there. Since we went into it expecting crowds and waiting it wasn’t too bad.

We could also see a fireworks show from somewhere around North Charleston and it looked to be a better show.

i use a private landing and it wasnt quite private enough the last couple years, still had a long wait to pull the boat out.

The wife and I went out 2 yrs ago to watch them. Had a great time. We anchored just off the back side of Castle Pickney. From there we was able to see 4 different firework displays. When it was over at 9:30 we started heading back to County Farm (Duncans) At 1:00am I was loaded up head to the house to be at work at 7am. We decided only way we’ll go again is to make a night of it and go fishing afterward.

The fireworks at the N Charleston Riverfront Park are better. They boast the largest show in the lowcountry. Nice place to be. I do want to sit on the flight deck of the Yorktown and watch it one of these days. The fireworks at Santee Canal State Park in Moncks Corner happen tonight. Very unique because you can lay on a blanket on a big hill above the tailrace canal. The fireworks are on a barge below you. Feels like the fireworks are right on top of you. Pretty neat if you get the chance to go.

Interesting, I may take the family to the canal park tonight.

Just FYI, I went out of Patriots Point this past Friday. First, they would not let me past the circle to drop of a lot of stuff for the boat (friend’s, not mine) and also had to park way out. We had to walk all that stuff down to the marina. That was 4 pm!

The fireworks were awesome! We were docked near the PP Marina.

We had much less to carry back (imagine that) and got to the jeep… 1 hour and 40 minutes later, we were able to move up 10 ft. Another 20 mins and we were finally heading to the exit, at about 11:15 pm.

SO! Don’t go to Patriot’s Point for July 4th. Just don’t do it. Oh, we had the option to stay at Folly Beach… the traffic was bumper to bumper on Folly Rd leaving the beach at 11:30 pm.

Just sayin… geez.
