Was thinking of taking a boat ride Saturday evening from Bushy down towards Drum Island to watch fireworks. Was wondering if anyone has done this and if the boat traffic bad or not.
Do it. It’s a blast
We’ll probably be taking a ride to the harbor from RiversEdge to watch fireworks.
Where do they do the fireworks show from?

Lol, we can all hear the sarcasm in your post. Ha!
I’m done with that mess too. Too many drunk idiots that don’t know the rules of the road… More importantly, most don’t care.

Bad enough being on the water during the day, I can’t imagine being out there in the dark with some of the yahoos bound to be out there.

One of our yearly traditions was to go down to the W.O. Thomas landing after dark on the 4th to watch the drunks come in. A small cooler of cold beer, find a spot against the rail and let the games begin!! That was ruined when they re-did the dock and took away the railings. Now, to go be a spectator would only put you in the way.

Here’s the truth of it. Watching fireworks on the water is a blast. Its the ride home after that is miserable. If you can figure out a way to leave your boat at a private dock and not have to go to one of the public ramps, you’re good. Its worth it. The problem that most have to deal with and hate is the fact of using a public ramp with all the drunks/people that don’t know how to operate a boat/young punk kids with daddy’s boats. We did this for a few years and I’ve seen some crazy stuff. Besides the obvious drunks at the ramps, we’ve seen plenty of fights, people jumping in and swimming at night and getting hit by boats, people peeing off the dock onto boats, police chasing people, people putting boats on the wrong trailers…its just a nightmare. And then once you get back to the ramp, you’ll have to wait in line for at least an hour to get out of the water. Not my idea of a good time.
The last time we did it, we left the boat overnight at a family member’s house on the cut. That was great and easy. Highly recommended if you have the capability. Otherwise, watch from land like the rest of us and go home safe.

Riverfront Park in North Charleston, the Yorktown in Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms…if you can find a good central location you can see them all…We’re gonna tuck in behind Cummings Point and check them out…weather permitting should be a good show…

The most fun and crazy fireworks show The Warden and I ever saw was at the beach on Marathon Key. Man, we still laugh it for some of the stupidity we saw.
We set up our blanket on the beach probably less than 100 yards from the fire department setting off the fireworks. There had to be several hundred boats anchored off the beach of every size you can imagine, and it was a rowdy boat crowd…something we had never see the likes of before.
There was loud music from the boats. People were swimming from boat to boat. People were lighting grills on the backs of their boats with fires that looked like a bonfire. People were shooting off massive fireworks off their boats. People were shooting off flares.
All you could do was laugh and wonder which boat would catch on fire first.
Then it got dark. That’s when it got even crazier. From the glow of the bbq grill fires and flares shooting off, we could see a dingy or small jon boat being paddled toward the shore…it probably had a rated capacity of 4, but it had to have at least a dozen people standing up in it. Then some drunk chick on a boat pleaded with them to take her ashore, so she got in. Then a a drunk guy on another boat wanted a ride to shore and he got in.
By now, water was less than an inch from the top of the gunnel as they paddled back to the beach. A few of them got out, most stayed in. Some ran into the spectators sitting on the beach and carried several cases of beer back to the boat and pushed off the beach. A few more people got into the boat and they paddled back into the dark just barely keeping from sinking. They were truly a ship of fools.
The fireworks were amazing. You’d feel the concussion as soon as you saw the explosion. The flashes illuminated the hundreds of boats and you worried that some of the embers were going to catch a boat on fire. One mis-fired and skipped along the beach shooting sparks each time the firework hit the sand, a kid looked surreal as he outran the advancing shower of fireworks on h

I have run the Cooper at night. Not a big deal. The whole river is lit up from the Harbor all the way to the Subs, then it gets dark.
Make a mental note of where things are for the trip home. I think there is dredging activity going on now.
Keep the tide in mind or you might be sitting in mud 200yds from the ramp.
Make note of the tide. I you frequent the landing than you are aware of how low it gets. The moon is expected full on the 1st.
On a similar note, I was told that the fighter jets will be doing a flyover at the IOP beach b/w 1:00 - 1:15 on Saturday afternoon. So, if you’re beach is around the Charleston area add or subtract a few minutes to see them. If I was told wrong, sorry ahead of time, just trying to pass along a great sight on a great day.
*your not you’re
I almost hate to give this secret away but I guess it won’t hurt that much.
The thing to do is go to the beach (nearest fishing hole to fireworks) at 5 or 6 before the rush. Set up your chairs and red/shark lines. Watch the fireworks, wait an hour and go home with a fishing trip and fireworks display in the books with no traffic.
I did this 2 years ago and had very few people around me since they were all fried from being out all day. They leave in the afternoon to prep for cookouts and fireworks. 89% moon will give you most of the light you need. A few flashlights and drinks and you are SET!!
