First Blue Fin Tuna!

For those that care to read heres ma story. Just got back from spending a week fishing the Eastern Shore of VA. I usually target flounder up there and the weather has not cooperatd to take the 21ft cc off shore. My first day up there my buddy called me on his way home from work and said there has been a change in plans. How bout we go offshore in a 50 ft Hattaras I almost dropped the phone. Biggest boat I had been on was the Thunderstar and Id never stepped foot on a sportsfisher. Well when I get to his house that morning he says theres a dead battery on one engine on Kerrys boat we are going on Fultons 38ft Rampage. Here she is ; )

We started out trollin plugs and later added bally hoo. Thats when this one hit.

My buddies guestimated that it weighed 80. We boated 3 small dolphin and called it a day. What a ride. Here is a pic from the tower.

and I loved these rod and reels

The next day we flounder fished in the bay with no luck. They must be 18 1/2 long up there.
Next day we took his grandson and caught flounder but none big enough. Then we took my kids out in the bay for some please any thing bite action. My son insistd that he wanted to use his Lightning McQueen rod so I respooled it and tightned the drag ; )
It was slow at first but then the tide and wind cooprerated and we drifted right into them. Kids had a blast and so did we. McQueen was unstopable and caught the most. ; )

Flounder fished out of Watchapreague and over the days we fished for them we released over 40 nice flounder but none 18 1/2. We were supposed to try spades up there my last day but hi

Go Ronnie!!!

That’s awesome Ronnie!! I remember drifting for Flounder in NC and NJ with my dad. One of my best memories. I’m so glad you got to do that.

Oh, BTW, that is one beee-u-tiful tuna you got there. What a great story.

I ran the 42’ version of that boat for Tred in the barta tourney a few years ago, before his medical situation. It was a great boat, but the tower needed some major tweaking. The hull itself was great though and it was the best part of the tourney.

Congrats on the tunny.

Nice job Ronnie.

Thanks yall it was a blast!
Sirecks it was my father who got me into flouder fishing years ago. We used to drift for them in VA n NC and I remeber giging them as a teenager in NC.

Lynn me too : ) LE should hve a nice report for cooking your catch.

Sells no problem. Glad you enjoyed it and nice to meet you and Marla.
Thanks for the tips hope I can remember them all.

Russ its awesome to see your kids happy and excited about fshing. They had a ball once we found the fish.

Eastern Tackle I was most impressed with the Rampage. I had nothing to compare it to but it sure was one sweet ride. The deck felt alot more solid than the tower ; ) Watching my buddy fight the biggest tuna of the week, the first bluefin Ive ever seen, just being on a sportsfisher, and turning the fighting chair to follow the fish were priceless ; )

Coot I’ll be in touch
