got my first elk ever. We were at 8000 ft above sea level. This old boy was sucking wind.
Never been close up to an elf before. He looked like a horse. Only a 4x4 but a trophy to me.
I’ll post pic tomorrow.
Congrats! I’ve never been elk hunting but its on my bucket list. I can only imagine packing out an elk… probably makes any of us on here feel old.

Incredible experience. This guy had to weigh 750#. Luckily it was on a hill and the guide and my son were able to start it down the hill and they picked up momentum and got it all the way to the creek. Then we were able to get 4 wheeler on other side of creek and attach the winch to that baby and pull it across. We are 3 miles from the New Mexico border in Chromo Co. The views are spectacular. We were positioned on a hill overlooking a draw. The cows came out about an hour before dark. The bull followed. It was about a 250 yd shot. He ran about 40 yds and laid down under a tree. Since this old body of mine was not climbing down that slope, my son and the guide went down and finished him off. My son is on the mountain this morning. Hopefully, he will get one today.

There are 7 hunters in our group. Only one other hunter has tagged so far. Normally, there is snow on the mountain tops at this time of year. This week the temps have been 70 degrees which has caused the elk to come out later. It is raining this morning. I hope that generates some activity and hoping Tony, my son gets one today.

Congrats to your son too! You must be having a blast on that trip. Did one of the antlers on yours break off putting him in the truck? Kinda looks that way in the pic.

That’s such a cool experience thanks for sharing. Definitely dream hunt there. My brother just moved out to Southern Colorado so hopefully we can make it a reality.
Good eyes Killin. That’s exactly what happened. It will be mounted with leather skull cap.
And yes. We are having a blast. This morning, hunter #6 tagged out. Only one left to get an elk.
