First fish ever

Got to take my brother in law fishing for first time ever. We used mostly shrimp and minnows but did throw some artificials. Caught ab 20-25 reds maybe. Several double hookups. Had some fun w black drum and trout. Great day on the water. Just want to add I felt sorry for the reds at low tide. They were hemmed up and we were catching them and the pelicans were diving on small reds from the sky.

Wow, nice work! That’s a heck of a day for his first time ever fishing. Way to set the bar HIGH. Looks like ya’ll had a lot of fun.

Good Job! I think I need to give up on artificials for awhile.

Were you using live or cut shrimp? Suddenly feeling a case of the fever coming on.

greg is that you?

Look out, he’s hooked now, next comes new rods and reels then a boat then a mad wife! Welcome to the reel world!!

Yes Cory it’s me. Bigfishfan it was frozen shrimp and artificials and some minnows. The bait would not have mattered these fish were hemmed up in a hole. Dorado Joe don’t stop throwIng artificials. The only reason we had bait was bc we had someone who had never even casted a rod. Wanted to make it as easy as possible for him. I get sooo bored sitting in one spot waiting for a bite. I rarely use anything other than artificial.

Thanks for the encouragement Clemsontrout! I do like throwing artificials this time of year. Question for ya… did you happened to see those fish all bunched up and carrying on, or did you stumble across them while casting around? The reason I ask is I’ve been hitting it pretty hard over the past month, on flats, backs of creeks, low tide, hide tide, in between tides, and haven’t “seen” much at all in the away of schooled or bunched up red anywhere that I could actually see.

I wasn’t doing any of that. Many times I do fish new areas or banks creeks whatever. We knew this spot and knew the fish would be there. They can’t get out st low tide. The trout were caught once water was coming in at different location. Did catch one stud trout over 20 inches but I was to lazy to get off the poling platform and net it and when I went to sling it in the boat it came off. You could see reds at some portions in the creek others not. Mainly not bc like I said they were trapped in ab 3ft of water and couldn’t go anywhere.

Boat flips and big fish don’t work out well usually lead to disappointment. I’ve broke rods lost fish nice variety. Funny thing I don’t fish artificials often because its slow. You chum a little mashed mullet and throw in some mullet, fish on. I think they fight harder when there all fired up. I feel you on the sorry for the reds. Almost everyone I caught last week looked scared and beat up but were in good health.

Good deal… thanks for the insight!
