I caught my first 9 fish on the fly rod yesterday! Two brown trout (biggest was 9 inches) and 7 unidentified creek fish (biggest was 7 inches). Used an Elk Hair Caddis and it did the trick. The creek fish were brown on top with white on the bottom and were pretty small. The mouth didn’t look like a trout’s mouth and they didn’t have any spots on them. Any ideas on what they could have been?
My camera battery won’t hold a charge so no dice on pictures unfortunately.

I’m out in north east New Mexico for the summer at Philmont Scout Ranch. I get to roam 137,000 acres of mountains, plains, and streams. and they PAY me to do it!

Awesome. Isn’t the west amazing in the summer? I’m guiding again up in Aspen Colorado. Not sure what those other fish are, but the only fish in rivers around here besides trout are mountain whitefish

We caught a mountain whitefish yesterday Rap. They are brown on top and white on the bottom and look similar to a carp. I’m guessing that’s what your other fish was
