We left the Hwy 41 bridge yesterday at 3:45. We went straight out from the jetties. I was a pretty slow ride out. Yes I will concur that reef cast was dead wrong yesterday. We dropped lines at 150 ft. We had a double hookup in less than 6 minutes. Nailed one, missed one. It was like that all day, but most of the hits were early. We had several misses, but we ended the day with a nice grand slam. Hot colors were red and black, pink and white, blue and white, green and yellow, and pretty much anything else I could attach to a line.
Total catch was:
4 dolphin (2 were released)
4 King Mackrel
2 Wahoo - both were caught on 150lb. Mono leaders
1 bonito (released)
I also wanted to throw out a big thank you to the guys over at The Charleston Angler in Mt. Pleasant. I have always had a passion for fishing, but never really had the opportunity to go off shore a lot. I recently moved here and three months ago I went in partners with a guy on a boat. On the maiden voyage, we got skunked. Then I realized I had had a lot of learning to do. I attended an off shore fishing class at The Charleston Angler. Also, Mike Benson and Daniel Nussbaum (2 of their employees) have spent a lot of time showing me how to rig baits, squid chains, spread designs, etc. On the last two trips we have been in double digits each time. I am really impressed with the customer service approach that The Charleston Angler takes to their business. I am hooked now! Thanks again for taking the time to show me the ropes. I promise I am not getting any discounts for saying this, but if you have not been by there, I would give them a shot at your business too. They have worked hard and have earned mine.
