First king pics 5/26

Went out with some friends today to the red banks area.
we caught a good variety of fish including vermilion, black sea bass, triggers, red porgies, an undersized 20" Gag, and my first King mackeral. the king was 44" long and was caught on an Abu garcia revo STX baitcaster real on a 7" diawa procyon med heavy rod. the fish bit on a sand bass hooked to a stinger rig. fight lasted about a half hour.

Oh! Oh! you have a fish on! turn the knobby thing!

did you have to run down that king not ot get spooled?
quite a fight on that baitcaster i imagine!

strip…strip…FISH ON!

Good job on getting that king in on that reel, like flyfishin said probably lucky you didn’t get spooled. I had the same happen to me last year while bottom fishing using a Ambassador 5000 baitcast reel with a 7’ Lightning rod, hooked a 30 lb cuda on the bottom and it took me about half an hour to land him. I couldn’t do anything with him just hold on and hope I didn’t get spooled which almost happened many times.

yeah i don’t know i was never realy close to getting spooled. the abu garcia revo stx has a pretty impressive drag. it puts out up to 18lbs on the high speed model that i have. i don’t think the king ever pulled out more than half a spool. on the abu garcia web site it shows a nice sailfish that someone caught using the same reel. heres the web page http://www.abugarcia.com/cat.php?k=78545&sk=46555
