Thanks for all the tips i received for a decent trip. Found schooling fish at the mouth of the creek by the Hilton ramp first thing, but was unable to hook up. dropped baits and got two shorts. did some riding and what a beautiful lake. is it always that clear? ended up in bear creek for the evening and caught 2 keepers and 2 more shorts. ended the day with 2 keepers, 5 shorts, 4lb bass and a gar for 10 hours of fishing. seen lots of schooling but it was always short lived.
Glad you had a good trip. What day were you there?
The upper reaches can get stained after a heavy rain but for the most part Murray stays very clear.
Nice!..Sounds like an excellent day considering you never even fished Murray before. I’ve been seeing the same kind of thing with the schooling fish not staying up long. Been catching some on top but been getting more just fishing the same areas we see them schooling fishing downrods.

i fished friday. yea those schooling fish were pretty finicky. i threw topwater, spoons, bucktails and even a bama rig at them with little success. when they are schooling is it on shad or bluebacks as i try to match the hatch?
Lots of times if they are schooling but not hitting topwater baits very well they will hit a jerk bait like a fluke. My personal favorite though is a 6" white Slugo.

I do pretty well using a Scrounger, with a 3" pearl fluke, when they don’t care for the top water baits.
…Politicians aren’t the “Oldest Profession”, but the results are still the same!!!
Ever tried that sluggo on a Point Jude wobblehead?
I haven’t. Should I???

You’ll never know till you try, but they give unbelievable action to the sluggos especially the 9" version.
