First one for 2014

Yesterday - 10/19/14 - kind of late at 6:54 had this one sneak up behind me - I could only catch intermittent glimpses of him and antler tips coming through the brush. (Somehow I was able to hear him walking despite my ever ringing ears). Looked like a good deer (much better than the all the small bucks I’ve seen recently). Thought it was an older 6 point we were after for the past few weeks but it turned out to be a different one that we didn’t have pics of yet.

Anyway, it was running a scrape line and in the process of getting my rifle turned around so I could shoot left handed, I heard the buck do a snort wheeze. Never heard that before other than on some of those worthless outdoor canned TV shows. I finally got turned around just in time for him to walk into a very small opening. Re-focused the scope since he was only 10 yards away at this point and picked out his shoulder. It was shoot quick or watch it walk off.

Decent buck - good sized body - not the monsters you guys are posting but I’m happy with him. He was “musky” big time. I think its getting ready to break loose in the next week or so. I could smell all the scrapes he freshened up on the walk back.

This just capped off a great weekend that saw my admitted subpar Tarheels beat GA Tech and - praise the Lord - I was there to see it!

I’m going to be doing my best to get my son a shot at one the next few weeks…hope to post his pic soon.

Best of luck to you guys!

Good job, those close shots tend to be quick.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
