First oofshore trip this year

Decided to give Lynn(Miss Amanda), sorry if I miss spelled it Lynn, a call to buddy up for our first trip this year. What an experience this was, If you ever get a chance to fish with this guy and crew do it, you won’t be disappointed trust me, very hardcore fisherman and will gladly give you any help or infor you can think to ask him. After digging a new trench leaving out of Shem Creek, we were on our way out following Miss Amanda’s stern light, it was black out, but clear, he called us to tell we were turning south from the end of the jetties where we meet head on with the waves, I’m looking at the rest of my crew and wondering if we could do this, I had my not too young son on board that I didn’t want to get green on me and start chumming this early, if you know what I mean, he held on and we stayed on Lynn’s tail light for what seemed like forever, until we got the word, let’s start here. We got our fist hit a 8:30 or so, but missed it, we soon got another, and ended there with four. We headed back trolling to the hill around 11:30 due to new engine on boat, and she seemed to be more thirsty than my old 200 Opti.,we ended up putting three more in the boat, total of seven for the day,so in 160ft. we picked up lines at one bar below half tank and headed home for alot softer ride in. We ran about 170 miles round trip, and ended up back at the creek with two bars left showing on my fuel gauge, will fill up for this weekend to see what she really burnt, and we can fine tune from some things from here, and give us a better idea of our fuel limits, sorry for turning into a long story, all in all, after an long day, telling my crew that I’m done with this offshore fishing, it’s just not worth this amount time and trouble I finally got to bed and after some sleep, we are already looking ahead for our next trip, a special thanks again to Lynn, and his crew, Andy and Bill, sorry if thats not your real names, I’m still alittle foggy this morning, for what we would call an adventure. God bless and thanks again, David a

Great job Edge. So glad you guys had a good time. Lynn is one in a million, that’s for sure.

Were you the guys we talked to at the ramp at Shem in the afternoon? If so, it was a pleasure to meet you.

Sirecks, yes it was, sorry I didn’t spend anymore time talking yesterday, but I was beat, just wanted to get home and done. Lynn was great to buddy up with, and finally get to meet in person. I’m looking forward to doing it again, we will just have to man-up better next time, if you know what I mean. Have a great day, David.

We all had a great time for sure! I’m glad that you brought some goodies home also!

Thank you guys for the compliments, but I haven’t done anything special. I love to fish, and I love to hear that others have enjoyed their time on the water. We’ll do it again, hopefully soon!!:slightly_smiling_face:

Lynn, don’t be so modest about how you are willing to help total strangers out, you da man, thanks for every thing. Keywest, I replaced my old opti. 200 with a new 200 hpdi. last year, it’s on an older 20ft. e.w… I have not had this boat offshore yet with this engine, we could run about the same distance out with old engine and come home with fuel gauge registering 1/2 tank, would refill tank and take 42/45 gallons, this boat holds 92 gallons of fuel also, will top off today and will post amount consumed, thanks David.

O.K., I filled fuel tank up Sat. morning, 58.4 gals. to run 170 miles, 34 gals. left in tank, 2.9 mpg. I will check it one more time running offshore, but bottom line is, I could have stayed out a little longer.

That good news David! Sorry that I missed your call today, after church I dozed off while watching the race. After that, things got busy around the house. We are planning on going again this week on Wednesday or Thursday. Hopefully, we can make it on Wednesday, if the wx cooperates. Are you ready for another trip??

Lynn, not a problem with missed call, guess Kyle ran away with at the end. Will have to let you know about this week, I have a busy schedule this week, but will see what I can do. I have a brother inlaw coming in the week after Mem. Day, and he ready to go, will be in touch, David.

It might just be me, but that is not a lot of fuel to be running offshore. In severe weather, that 2.9 can become 1.5 in a hurry. Do yourself a favor and get a fuel management gauge. It won’t change the weather, but will at least give you an accurate read of what your real situation is at all times.

Good job on the fish.

You are correct. However, the run out was extremely rough! I feel he has plenty of fuel to make the run out and back, at least as close in as the fish are right now. If he was to run out of fuel on the way back in, David would probably be pretty close to the harbor. His towing service could bring some fuel very easy. I’m not saying that you would want to rely on that, but that would be an option under those conditions. Heck, I only have a 60 gallon tank and I burn around 50 gallons on average. Once again, I am not saying to push your limits, but we all take risks heading out on the big blue.
