Moved to the lowcountry in the fall of 2013. Have caught some reds inshore but none over 22". Was just outside the harbor this morning with a couple small spots on the bottom. Saw one rod bounce a little (not nearly as hard as I expected) and the fight was on. I knew it was something big so I handed off the rod to my wife so she could get a feel for a big fish (big for us anyway). Afraid it would come off while the rod was in her hand she handed it back to me and we got this big bull on the boat. Measured 39.5" (I’m calling it 40) and 27.8 lbs (I’m calling it 28). Never been so happy after a one fish day. Woulda stayed longer but the wind was picking up and the 17’ bass tracker was ready to head for calmer waters.
Nice!
If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
Reeeeeely nice!!!

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

Hey, shouldn’t you be called shadguy? Or something cooler like… Shadvi… oh nevermind, that one’s already taken!
Nice post and nice fish!
Awesome report and congrats on your first bull, many more to come I’m sure.

Good job. A beauty.
Nice fish.
I have the Polar Craft version of your boat with the 40 force and all. I have been tempted to go out to the jetties, but every time I look at the winds I am just not feeling it, even with Sea Tow on call. But hell the Stono Inlet was worse than that Saturday when we were coming home.
I’ll have to get it a go, but there is NO WAY my wife will go out there with me. She would freak out. Solid work on that trip, Sir!

It’s definitely not a spot I can go anytime given my boat size. Probably limited to early mornings before the winds pick up. Redfish are my wife’s favorite fish to catch so that one took her mind off the waves.
Don’t you just love when you tell your friend about the fish you caught, and he says oh yeah I got one bigger just 2 weeks ago.

Yeah and we got more “Gill Grabbers”.
If you’re gonna catch’em, at least learn how to handle them. It is really simple, take a lesson from troutguy7613, he seems to have it down.
- Grag it by the tail, with your strong hand.
- Get your other hand underneath.
- Pick it
If it is still kick’in…HUG IT
There is no need to grab it in the gills…really…
dparker, go ahead and pat yourself on your back.
I’ll pat it for him. It needs to be said.

Thanks DParker for pointing that out. I always try to be as gentle as possible with any fish I’m going to release. Now if it’s going in the cooler, well I guess I’m still gentle. Thanks again

Well I tell you what - next time I pull up to the pump to fill that boat up or go to the tackle store to buy some new equipment I’ll send y’all the bill and as soon as I get that check in the mail I’ll listen to your politically correct BS - until then I’ll just keep fishin!!!
Sweet. Good job
