Hey y’all. Lynnmcd took me and Kut08 out on the ever famous Miss Amanda to do some bottom bumping on the 11th. This would be the first serious effort for me in the area of bottom fishing. I’ve done some fishing at the near shore, and so forth, but never a real effort like this.
We started the day out early, left the hill at about 0300. Made it out to our spot before the sun was up. We went north to about 120 feet of water. We spent the rest of the day going to a few different spots, eventually working our way back to about 80 feet of water. We left the fish biting at about 1700. We fished cut squid and cut bait all day, and tried some live bait here and there.
The day was CONSTANT action it seemed. We hauled up a bunch of fish. BSB’s, Pinkies, White Grunts, Vermilion, Triggers, one grouper and one BIG AJ. We didn’t see any ARS’s. I guess they really are extinct. Of course the usual compliments of bait fish and sharks as well.
One of the two highlights for the day, for me anyway, was when we were anchored up on one spot and out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glint of blue and yellow in the water. A school of about 10 to 15 dolphin came around the boat. They kept circling so we tried to catch 'em. They hung around but just didn’t seem interested for a bit. Until Lynnmcd, while holding his rod under his arm and tying a knot for Kut08, had one jump on his line. We laughed about it, and he brought in a peanut. I got smart, took the weight off of my double hook bottom rig, threw it back in the water and got a double peanut hook up. Two dolphins for the price of one!!! Kut08 brought in our fourth. We were about in tears laughing and joking about catching these things.
The second highlight came when Kut08 caught a Tom Tate, put it right on his hook, lowered it back into the water and before it hit the bottom, he had a really hard pull. Just prior to this, a sizable shark had swum by the boat. He thought, as well as the rest of us, that this shark had hit his line. The fish was put
Thanks for the kind words! We had a great time on the water!
One day, if I keep working at it, I’ll get better at finding the fish. Of course, it doesn’t help being on a small craft when it is a little snotty. No excuse here, though, I just stink at this point, but I WILL get better!! As long as everyone had a great time and caught some fish, that is still a successful trip in my book. Adam and Alex are great guys and a blast to fish with!! We’ll do it again soon!

I’m always ready for a fishin’ trip!
I just hope Jack has some good numbers and experience, because I am probably the worst at the bottom bumpin’!
But, hey, we still have fun… That counts for something, right?!?

Skinee, that’s how most normal people do it. However, when you fish on the Miss Amanda you are not in “normal” conditions. J/K Lynn. Being that I’ve been trained to get up that early for trolling, this seemed like a normal day. We just had a blast out there all day.

Roger that, Lynn!
Daddy and my twin are planning to come in October, and we’re planning to do some trolling then. You’re a must for that trip, too! I’d almost head out now for some trolling considering there are reports of lots of nice dolphin being caught.
0300 for bottom fishing? Crap! You aren’t supposed to even leave the dock until sun up on a bottom fishing trip. Sounds like you guys had a good time.
Well, when you don’t have a big Cat, big Contender, or some other big boat, you have to leave early just in case that wx forecast is off a bit. When I go fishing, I like to make a day out of it! Some mornings I can make 30mph + no problem, other mornings, 15mph can be a struggle. I love to fish, so I have to use what I have, and do what I can to make the most out of it…
Yep, we always have a great time on the water!!

C’mon Bozo, if we were going to make up a story, we would have at least caught our limits of everything…[:0]

Or said that we caught 40 pound dolphin, all bulls, circling the boat, not peanuts!!
That’s right!!
Hey, we had a great time on the water today with you and your fam, along with Long Enuff and his!!
We’ll have to do that again soon!!

My first AJ, man this thing was fun on the light tackle…
Many thanks to Lynn for a great trip and a safe trip as well. We always have fun out there with Sirecks and it was great fishing with you guys. Can’t wait to do it again. I know most people could care less about Ajs and sharks but I could care less about BSBs so it was good for me.
Way to hold that fish out Kut so that it looks bigger. LOL!!
notice the angle of my arms sirecks…they are at a 90 degree angle…unlike some people on here who catch teeny tiny feeshes and extend their arms 180 degrees…not mentioning any names… lol
