First Sail for team KD

Left IOP Marina and out Dewees by 5 am. We had to sleep on center console boat, decided to fish on short notice, no hotel vacancy within 60 miles of Charleston. Didn’t seem matter coming to fish was our first priority, then beer…and sleep was somewhere lower on our list. We stuck to our plan to head for 380 hole and work our way south along the ledge in the 300 ft plus depth. We dropped in a couple of high speed rigs on the way out…picked up a 15lb king doing 18 knots.

Had pretty much non-stop dolphin action all morning. Found a very fishy weed line at 350ft. Picked up several nice 20 plus bulls. Had a good dolphin get cut off some how but he managed to stay in spread and pick up another ballyhoo bait…got both baits back. Nice!

Then minutes later the starboard outrigger pops and Jeff is at the 30wt Penn…drops back to fish only to realize clicker was off. He had a terminal birds nest, luckily he managed to get a couple of quick wraps of the 30lb test before the now leaping sailfish could escape. We actually had a double but fish quickly cut it off his buddy.

Just a little photo op before a quick Tag & Release. Pulled in lines 12:30 after lunch and hauled home doing 25 knots.
