Caught my first South Carolina Striped Bass the other day. Little different from the stripers off the coast in NJ and NY, but loads of fun on light tackle.
We landed 25 and we had to work for them, but we had a good time. Thanks for the trip, can’t wait to go again.
Lost a few, landed a few close to 26" kept one that was just over 26"
Looks like the new regs are really helping the population. I would like to see them put the same rules on Murray. I’d much rather catch a bunch of 25.5" fish instead of the standard 20.5" murray fish.
Kut, congrats on your first SC striper. I grew up fishing that same area too, but like you said, even though it’s a lot different from the striper fishing up that way, they are lots of fun to catch on light tackle in the lakes and rivers of SC.
Just read last night (South Carolina Sportsman I think?) about some changes being proposed this year and it did mention Lake Murray striper regs… proposed totally doing away with the size limit in the summer, but no mention of an increase in the size limit for the rest of the year
Some fought really hard, while others were “dead weight” but on my Inshore Rod and Reel it was a blast!
Should I post this picture and say I caught this in Murray, or would noone believe me?
We catch these all the time in the surf or right off the surf in Jersey and Montauk. They look a little different too. I wonder if they taste different?
Nice fish! We should have taken a pic with some of the bigger ones…
