Got to head out with Jerms yesterday, our crew was supposed to be a bit larger put I guess some prefer to sleep rather than fish (you know who you are). Our goal was simple, land a few spades on fly and toss a fly to any cobia that may show up. The first part of the morning was spent running and looking for fish with little success. We did enjoy some nice airtime in the cat and were giggling like kids with some of the larger jumps.
Eventually the fish were cooperating with everyone but us. Getting one of those boogers to eat some thread and dubbing on a hook turned out to be harder than we thought. Watching everyone catch fish was enjoyable, especially a father and his two sons that were wearing them out.
Patient maker was also a blast to watch each time they hooked up with a cobia and started the fire drill. In all it was truly fun to watch everyone have fun and enjoy the fish with others who were kind and courteous.
I have to admit, it was hard to keep throwing something artificial them and getting no takes when every boat around you is hooked up, but our resolve was strong. I placed the fly in front of countless fish only to be snubbed. Finally, I saw a large fish, placed the fly in front of him and as soon as he mouthed the small fly. . . . . STRIPSTRIKE! He was giving the little 7 weight and 12lb tippet all it could take. With getting a take on fly as rare as hitting the lotto, I kept telling myself not to put too much strain on the tackle. Eventually, I was able to get the fish boatside and see that it was in fact a nice spade, larger than the landing net Jerms had ready. After several pics, Jerms was on the bow with the long rod. We continued to try the get him one only to get more refusals. Eventually, we ran out of time. We stopped to weigh the fish on the way home and found that he was 9lbs exactly, not too shabby. Thanks again Jerms, I had a blast and my only regret is that we did not get you one on fly, but I am up for trying it again anytime. It was also nice to meet so many

I’m so Charleston i got spanish moss on my balls!!
Shadow, that was lots of fun… frustrating at times, but fun nonetheless. You know you’re hooked on the long rod when everyone around you is hammering the fish on bait and you keep at it for hours until you get one to eat the fly!
Those 7 miles of airtime were a blast… I didn’t know the Jerms Warfare could fly like it had wings! I still need to go over everything well, there’s no way we didn’t break something.
Oh, and thanks for making me want a Crosscurrent glx… like I need another 7wt… it’s already on my Christmas list!
Congrats on the first!
Pillage and plunder with a 9wt and a fist full of clousers.

I'll be the guy drinking Pabst on a 85 montauk with a clemson flag hangin from the stern light, going about 6 knots,. . .hopefully we'll have some ladies with us, but I think that might be wishfull thinking at this point.
It’s tough sticking with a method that isn’t producing while everything around is catching fish and thinking you’re crazy. Good for you, you inspire the rest of us to hang in there and throw those flys.
