Been a little too sporty to venture off shore so took Captain Lynn this morning for some inshore. Been tryin to catch a red topwater on the Spook for a couple of years now and never have sucessfully landed one till this am. Early morning bite was short. 6.5 red and a nice trout that was easily a couple of pounds. Both released to fight another day. Fun stuff! Thanks TheHawg for turnin me onto it and thanks Lynn for trollin me up to her ; )
A fun trip! Thanks Ronno!!
I am happy you did some catchin’, unlike your “guide”…

Great job! Looks like he didn’t have a chance once he commited to that Spook! 5 out of 6 hooks looks like!

He wasn’t getting away, that’s for sure! Ronnie did an awesome job!
He didn’t make the mistake of jerking the rod at the first sign of the fish, he just let it eat properly…

Thats always my mistake. I always get jumpy when I see a trout or Red blow up on my top water lure. I seem to jerk it right away from them. Last year I caught a nice trout on a Badonkadonk top water after he chased it down while I constantly jerked it away from him. He chased it for a good 30 feet and finally went airborn and swallowed the lure and pretty much hooked himself. Good Job on your catch !
Spooks work well and I’ve recently had success with a Badonk a Donk. Nothing like getting that blow-up first thing in the AM. Makes the coffee kick in a lot faster.
