First Tailing Red of the Spring

Fished yesterdays flood tide in the back of some creeks off the Wando. Landed my first tailing Redfish at 29" on a Slayer Lure SST. Also, landed this beauty of a speck on a vudu shrimp under popping cork about an hour in to outgoing.

Also landed an additional smaller trout, puppy drum and a 7" flounder for the slam! Ha!

Beautiful morning on the water - little to no wind and a glassy smooth surface.

Looks like a pretty good day to me. Slam is a slam!

Awwwww yea! Let it begin… Good work man!

Awesome! It’s killin’ me not to be out fishing.

I’m with ya flicker. This workin’ nonsense is really crimping my fishing time!

Keep on castin’

Awesome ! I’ll be taking my yak to the coast this weekend for the first time…ever. I can’t wait !

Solid report. Planning on coming down and hitting the salt next week. Ain’t that right, Juice?

Nice trout!

How often do you pop the cork, and how long do you let it sit in between pops?

I don’t think there’s a simple answer to that. Personally, whether you’re popping a cork or working some other artificial, play with retrieve until the fish tell which they prefer. There’s nothing wrong with getting advice from other fishermen but the fish will tell you more than anything you’d ever get from dock talk.

Well put bangstick. I can’t say I did much other than target a deep bend in a creek that I’ve scouted at low tide. Oyster mound on each side and a smaller feeder stream spilling in. The vudu shrimp was taken by the trout as soon as it hit the water.

I will say that I had a 4’ leader between the cork and lure due to the high tide at the beginning of outgoing. Cork was nothing but a fluorescent aquatic strike indicator contraption in this instance…
