First time back to upper wando

Finally got back to the upper Wando. Put in at paradise island ramp, and not surprisingly i was the only one there. It was a pretty nasty damp day yesterday, but man the fishing was HOT! Took a few pics.

Started off with this nice little 15" red

I know he’s a little guy but I was probably the most happy with this catch because i just can never seem to catch these guys. I think this was like the 4th maybe 5th one ever for me

Then the trout bite just exploded. Caught 4 on one mud minnow at one point. Probably caught and released 20 trout in an hour. All within about 11-15". Saw some BIG reds come in when the fishing started to get slow but couldn’t get them to bite anything. Might have spooked em. Overall an awesome first time back on the wando. Also a little advice to any newbie. Dont EVER forget your drain plug. I was paddling on down the river, wondering why my yak was so unstable when i realized not a second too soon that I forgot my plug and I was about to sink. Fortunatly I was right beside a little boat ramp and was able to get there, drain the yak (was more than halfway full at this point) and cut a little piece of foam golf ball that I had in my bag to use as a plug. Definitely made some memories yesterday…

That is a beautiful area. Been wanting to get up that way myself, haven’t been in a while. Funny about the plug. You hear about that with power boats but first time for a yak. Looks like you made a nice day out of it.

Congrats on the fish, and for realizing you were about to sink! (and improvising)

haha yea ive seen it happen with power boats. The golf ball thing was INCREDIBLY lucky. Ive been out like 25+ times this year and not once brought an extra ball. Never hurts to be over prepared. Very interesting day, cant wait to get back out that way.

All fishermen are liers except me and you and I’m not sure about you.

Good day on the water. I went out there yesterday for a couple of hours but only caught one small trout and 2 small reds. The weather was nice and cool though.
