I will be coming to the Isle of Palms the second week of May. Need some advice on where the good spots are to catch Red fish. What are the best rigs etc… Any help would be appreciated.
For that brief amount of time I’d go to Haddrell’s Point in Mt. Pleasant, tell them your situation, and let them hook you up with all you need - including shore fishing options I’m sure. Sounds like you’ll need to stop somewhere anyway to get what you need, and they may be able to provide all at once. Depending on how much knowledge you need be mindful they will have other things to do, also, so please take that into consideration as you bend their ear for info.
Good luck. If shore fishing, hop over to Sullivan’s and fish behind Ft. Moultrie near the rock groins and old pier pilings. I’ve hooked fish there before long ago when I shore fished.

I’ll be fishing from my boat. Any recommendations as to a good area in the inner costal water system?
What kind of boat?
Big boat, jon boat, flats boat, kayak?

Head along the inner coastal, pick a creek and fish 'em up! Docks, points, feeder creeks, etc. Docks behind Sullivans Island are legendary. No big secret there. Keep casting, keep moving. But still follow the advice above. Good peeps that will help.

Honestly, hire a good for s half or full day. Looks kinda pricey bit it practically ensures you and you’ll buddy will catch a few fish. Also guarantees a good time! its better to spend the $ and catch a few then go out on your boat and catch em the next few days using the guides ideas, than not hiring one striking out the whole time. That ain’t fun!
Sounds like plan. I have some ideas of what type of bait to bring…Gulp shrimp, horsehead jigs with trailers and a few plugs. What other bait is good?

You can’t go wrong with mud minnows. Fish them on the bottom with a Carolina rig:

Good luck.

Agree with black Bart but use a small circle hook instead of the worm hook that’s shown in the picture.
How is live shrimp? Where do you get them and what is the best way to put them on the hook.
1/0 or 2/0 Owner Mosquito Circle Hook. Put the hook through the soft part at the end of the tail and throughout the hard part/shell
Coming down from Greenville this weekend to visit some family. I’d like to do some shore fishing. I was considering Brushy Park pier or Pitt st bridge. Pitt st seems to be slow from the reports I’ve seen lately. Also, can you access the docks behind sullivan’s island from shore? Thanks for the help.
