First Time Offshore In My New Boat

Hey All,

Okay, first off, I’m new here to the forum. I’ve posted a bit, and asked a few questions. I’m posting today because after having just purchased my first boat about two months ago, I was finally able to get out and get the lines wet.

We set out early this morning. It was 38 degrees as the sun came up. Pretty chilly. As per the advice of some here, and some reading I’ve been doing, we set out for some Sea Bass at the dumping area south of the channel. We made it out about 10 miles, to about 40 feet of water, and starting drifting.

First pass gave us nothing. I was getting worried thinking this wasn’t a good sign.

We went to another spot that looked promising, and started drifting there. We pulled in three fish right away. They were all small, as you can see in the pics below, but being they were the first fish caught in the boat, we had to document it. Please, be kind. I know it’s corny, but hey, I was really excited. I’m the one in the ball cap BTW.

We kept passing over that spot after we marked it on the GPS and pulled up about 15 to 20 fish. Only 4 were keepers. EDIT: Yes, they all were 12 inches or over per the DNR reg I have on the boat.

I had to fly this afternoon so we could only stay out for about 3 hours or so. As the sun got higher, the wind became less and waves calmed more. It was almost like a lake out there. Just beautiful. Had I not had to work, we would have stayed out MUCH longer.

So, here are some pics that we took, to share with you guys. I know the fish aren’t huge, but we were still pretty proud to have caught four nice fish. Can’t wait to get them on the dinner plate.

Thanks.

The first fish (all brought in at the same time) caught on my boat! Ha Ha Ha!

Good you made it out!! Check your PM box.:wink:

Due to financial constraints the light at then end of the tunnel has been turned off until further notice.

I am not an offshore fisherman, but I envy those who get out on the great big blue. So congrats on the experience, regardless of size, they must have been very rewarding!! Good on you.

Thanks guys. Thanks Scout. :wink: Back at ya.

Now that I’ve got the means, and the confidence to do this on my own, I’ve got the bug . . . . . . I’m already thinking about when can I get out again.:stuck_out_tongue:

Hey penfishn.

Ha Ha Ha!! All it took was one story about a guy who had to be towed about two miles back to his dock on the ICW and the amount of cash he had to fork over for it, and I was on the BoatUS.com website joining up! Even paid for the trailer part of the package!

@Capt. Steve.

This boat is a testament of how blessed my life has been these past few years. It seemed the best way to acknowledge that was to let folks know by her name. Thanks for the post. I just hope and pray that my lines are just as blessed!! Ha Ha Ha.
