first time out, Blue Marlin

Hey all, so I finally got to take to boat out to chase some phins around with my bud. We caught a few and missed few and even had a hoo the cut the mono. But the biggest surprise was the big blues! Yes Blues as in Blue Marlin. We hooked two but one busted off pretty quick but kept jumping right behind the one we EVENTUALLY brought to the boat. I have a new 21 Key West CC, My neighbor and I decided to go out and he was going to show me a few tricks about fishing on the East coast. Anyways, about 2ish we decide to head back to a hole that had been pretty productive and not more than 5 min later BAM! Fish on! After 2 hours and 38 min we got it upto the boat and grabbed the leader but really didnt know what the heck to do with it after that? We fought it a bit more and the line finally gave it but we we getting ready to cut the leader anyways. Then the seas kicked up and the 4 1/2 hour ride back in we were at the dock. Left at 6am and got in about 9:30 pm. We fished out to about 60 miles. I got to say that’s a pretty awesome day! I have some pics but haven’t uploaded or even looked at them on the computer. I’ll get some uploaded though. Pretty fun and was very happy about how the boat handled. Oh ya, of course we forgot the fighting belt at home so a bit sore today. BTW, what the heck are you supposed to do with a fish that size up next to the boat. It was about 7+’ as the tail was at the keel and the head was at the center console. It’s shoulders were at least 18" across I know it was at least in the mid 200 class but I would bet it was a bit more than that?

Thanks all and I love Charleston fishing!!!

NICE REPORT

congrats hell of a first trip! Big thing to remember is keep the boat moving so water is moving through the fishes gills.

-Wishes Charlotte was 3 hours closer to the ocean…-

I’m a friend of your neighbors and I was talking with him today about your guys day out . . . .

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I’m sure you know about him catching that White on a 30 lb test spinning rod? He’s one of the luckiest guys I know. Now this season you guys up the mark by him being in a boat with double Blue hook up . . . . I need to start fishing with him more often!!

Way to go on a first trip. I can’t wait to see the pictures and the videos. Congrats.

That was an incredible day! Of course, the day I forget to bring the fighting belt we end up catching the biggest fish of our lives. I’m sure paying for it today! That Blue was caught on a TLD25, with 30 lb mono, and just about spooled it in about 10 seconds. Luckily cohokilla was able to turn the boat around and chase it allowing us to get some line back on the reel. The funny thing is, that was the exact spot where the_catcher and I caught that White Marlin this time last year. This thing could have had the White for lunch though. Awesome experience and the fish lives to fight another day!!!
