First time out...

The Girldawg and I have fished alot in the surf and on the Chrerry Grove Pier, but are new boaters. On Monday (as Girldawg posted elsewhere, with more details) we went out of Little River Inlet to the General Sherman Wreck. I was wondering, what exactly is or how far is offshore? If you are in eyesight of land is that then considered nearshore? Or, do you guys figure there is only inshore and offshore?

Also, let me say we have really appreciated reading the advice given on CF to new boaters. I welcome all the advice, guidance, and even criticism I receive. After retiring from over 25 years in law enforcement, my skin is pretty thick, but you don’t have to test that!

Welcome growndawg,
I figure once you go through the inlets your “off of the shore”, but I too am a new boater. I just picked up my dads boat and am in the process of cleaning, registering and insuring the boat. I am looking forward to getting it wet soon, hopefully within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I can tag along with some of the experienced saltwater guys on here until I get some launches under my belt.

you get anything or just goin for a cruise? good to luck with your new boat

Happyappy…we had jellyballs and tried to find some Spades, but didn’t see any. We bottom fished for awhile in two spots, caught about 12-15 BSB; however, they were all under 12". Trolled for awhile with artificials, but nothing. Anyway, it was nice and more experience was gained.
