Team, I want to put in on a Friday night at the wappoo cut and spend the night on the boat and head out past the Jetties and hit the closer artificial reefs.
Where would be a safe place to anchor or tie up to for the night? I dont need power or water just a safe place…
As always thanks for any advice.
My thinking would be to go up behind the northern tip of Morris Island. You want a place that will be calm and out of the wind and of course away from any boat traffic. This would be a good place to leave from to shoot out through the jetties in the morning. Make sure you put out plenty of anchor line and give yourself room to swing around with the tide changes.
Man I’m jealous. This sounds like a great idea!!!
Its one of the reasons we moved from a center console to a 23ft walk around. We haven’t done it yet but we are looking to do it soon. I hope some day to post some pictures of some worth while fish!!! LOL time will tell.
The area on the back side of Fort Sumter has a gradual slope and is shallow this is true. You have to approach by going out beyond the range marker that is just past the fort. You come wide around that and then shoot straight in behind the sandy tip of Morris Island called Comings Point. Once in behind the Island stay close to the Morris Island side and along the sandy stretch on the island. Once you see the marsh grass along the shore the channel narrows so be careful there. I included a link to the chart for the area and I hope you can see what I’m saying.
Morris Island is good place. My only other suggestion would be anchoring inside of Ellis/JI creek. But that does get shallow at the mouth. All you do is trim the motor up and go straight in/out the middle of the creek
