Chicagoan bring wife, kids and parents to town for the last week of June. Was wondering if anyone could share or point me to any good/recent info on fishing the Charleston area. I’ve been lurking here for months and it sounds like I made the right choice for my vacation this year.
We have a condo at Mariners Cay (far west one) just north of Folly Beach (anyone fished by?).
I’m hooked on saltwater fishing and have saltwaster rigs ready to go just don’t feel 100% prepared.
Baits/Areas/SC fishing rules people usually don’t know etc is all greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!
Mike
Buy a saltwater license. Know which beaches you can have beer on bc they will fine you heavily on Sullivan’s island.

Which is none of them now. Thanks folly
Are you bringing a boat? Folly river towards Kiawah has plenty of good fishing spots. Bringing family on boat for recreation and cruising? Kiawah island, sandy beach, great spot to spend the day with your family. Also, that area has plenty of good fishing spots.
Have fun!!!
License already planned on. I have to say your state is cheapest one I’ve every come across. I’ll be saving the beer fishing for when I’m near the rental. There any good SC breweries?
Unfortunately we don’t have a boat and can’t justify to wife the rental charges so shore/pier will be for me. Got myself a real surf fishing setup for an early fathers day present… 10ft bigwater ugly stick with a shimano sonoroco 5000 series with 16# momoi high catch plus whatever leader I need.
10 days away now… cannot wait!

I like almost everything by Westbrook and Coast. Two great local breweries.
I agree with moral with westbrook and coast but I would also recommend Holy City, Revelry and Frothy Beard. Holy City also has a good food menu also.
1900 Tidewater Bay Max 115 Yamaha
Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120
i have a feeling youre about to get more beer recommendations than fishing info…
but one of my favorite SC brews is The Medusa Stout by Conquest
If I’m posting, its because I’m sitting here at work, dreaming about fishing.
surf fishing has been really good recently. could always try the pier?
Cooper river brewing is awesome also.
Look at where Jesus went to pick people. He didn’t go to the colleges; he got guys off the fishing docks.
My wife and I enjoy good beer so I’ll be sure to make a list. One of our must bring back souvenirs is usually a case or more of whatever good beer we discover.

In that case, I’ll go ahead and show you my 3 favorite local brews in order:
Coast Hop Art

Westbrook IPA

Westbrook One Claw

Making me thirsty!!!
As much as I like good beer I also like good food and I hear you folks are known for it. What are some local favorites? I’m already looking at Glass Onion, Martha Lou’s, Bowen Island, Hominy Grill, Rodney Scotts, Jack o Cups. I’d love to find some non tourist filled quality gullah or low country food.
Fishing seems to still be doing great down there so I’m chomping at the bit to get there. 8 days!

Fat Hen on John’s island is hands down the best food I’ve ever had. Everything is local and fresh, enjoy

You and your family are certainly welcome to fish with me on my boat. I fish the Folly, Kiawah and Stono rivers about three times a week. I have to get some work done at the beginning of the week but if all goes well I will be free to go fishing Wednesday or Thursday evening and I will definitely be on the water Saturday and Sunday. I can only fish with about four on my boat including myself. Let me know if you would like to go.

Tiderunner…You are good peeps. Outstanding of you to invite a board newbie. Kharma will pay you back in spades.
I agree with the Fat Hen but my favorite restaurant is Loggerhead’s on Folly. I will be down there the 3rd week of July and expect that I will eat at Loggerhead’s at least twice.
Snapper Jack’s is good also
Went to Bowen Island a few trips ago and it was horrible. I will never go there again.
